Radar Detector

Hey guys I was looking into getting a radar detector. Was wondering what you guys are using and what you think is the best. I was looking into a Escort Solo s2 cordless. http://www.escortradar.com/solo.htm
Have any of you guys heard anything bad or good about this one. I like it because its cordless but obviously that doesn’t mean it’s a great choice.

I also posted an Interior pic if guys have any creative ideas for anything else let me know.

Of course you'll get a lot of different opinions on this but the top two contenders are the Escort 9500 and Valentine One.

Cordless detectors don't work very well, so just hardwire the detector into your car.

The Valentine One is the best radar/laser detector you can find in the under $500 radar detector category. The Escort Solo S2, like every other battery operated detector, is a POS because it is sleeping 85% of the time to conserve batteries. Battery operated detectors will have very little chance of detecting instant-on radar, POP radar, radar over a hill, radar around a curve, etc. Look how poorly a brand new Escort Solo S2 performed at the latest independent unbiased radar detector test.

This is why battery operated detectors suck:

I bought a radar detector from target (50 bucks) and that works just fine. I have always caught up each piggy throwing radar at me.

i have a v1 with a remote display. the unit is hard wired and mounted just below the right side of the rear side of the rear view mirror and the display is on top of my steering column. no matter how you chose, make sure you do your research on sites that are independent and not owned by the detector manufacturer or one of their subsidiaries.

K40 is a good brand as well. I've had my RD850 for awhile and have had great results! They have plenty of hardwire units as well. Check'em out! www.k40.com

V1 is not better than a x50, just has fancy arrows. Who cares what direction you are getting lit up from, just slow down when it beeps.

Escort Passport 8500 x50 ftw.

wow does anyone do any unbiased research before they buy anything or do they just buy what everyone else has. effing sheep.

do some unbiased research. anyone can post a website that says ones better than an other. im sure there is a website out there somewhere that says radars don't work and that they are a mind trick. doesn't mean it is true.

the V1 is a good radar. but there are other things out there that perform as well if not better than the V1 that is easier to use has more features and custom ability and on top of that cost the same if not a lil cheaper.

i sir. for my application i chose a Beltronics RX65 pro. read some review on the net and make up your own mind.
here ill get you started.

You are preaching to everybody and telling them to do unbiased research and you put up a link to the most biased site on the planet.

Radartest.com is run by a guy named Craig Peterson who works for Bel and Escort so he bashes the V1 every chance he gets and promotes Bel and Escort products. He got busted trying to sabotage the Guysoflidar.com 2007 radar detector test and he will probably have to part with a couple thousand dollars on top of the $1000 radar gun that he hid under camouflage on top of a mountain to throw off the testing.

The Valentine One is better than the Escort 8500 X50 at detecting radar and laser. On top of that, the Valentine One has a front and rear radar antenna and arrows unlike the Escort 8500 X50 so that you can actually locate a cop and not just try to guess where they are located.

Here is a video of a Valentine One compared to the 8500 X50 in instant-on radar. The guy in the video thought that he was using POP radar on the radar gun but he wasn't pressing the right button so this is just an instant-on radar test.

This is a video of the Valentine One compared to the 8500 X50 in detecting the Laser Atlanta laser gun in stealth mode.

You said, "Who cares what direction you are getting lit up from, just slow down when it beeps." That is the problem with the 8500 X50, you won't hear a beep if the cop is using a Laser Atlanta laser gun in stealth mode and there is a huge chance you won't hear anything if he is using instant-on radar. With the Valentine One, you will hear a beep 100% of the time and you will have an arrow pointing to all the threats and a flashing arrow at the worst threat. Which one sound better...a beeping Valentine One with arrows or a dead silent 8500 X50?
