Bonneville Salt Flats Season?

Hi Salt Flat experienced memebers!

Does anyone know when (what months) the Bonneville Salt Flats driveable?

A friend and I are thinking of renting a car and doing a pilgrimage to the Salt Flats. Ideally we'd go in either mid-January or mid-February to take advantage of MLK day or President's day. Is the salt solid enough in the winter to drive on?

Thanks!

Anybody? I can see that the big events are usually held Aug to Oct (http://www.blm.gov/ut/st/en/fo/salt_...onneville.html) but I would like to get out there sooner than that!

I found this quote in a FAQ on the salt flats:
When temperatures rise in the late spring and summer months, the salty water rapidly evaporates in the heat, and the minerals are left behind to form the salt crust. During the cooler months of the year (November to May), evaporation slows down and the ground water floods the Salt Flats several inches deep.
I guess that makes the season June to October? Can any locals confirm?

Thanks!
