This is why I hate Illinois

Last night I was on Interstate 94 headed to work. It had rained all day so there was standing water on the road. I was doing about 45 MPH (because of the water) when all of a sudden the whole driver's side of my car sunk into a crater the size of Nebraska. I got to work and couldn't believe what I saw. Well, yes I could. This is Illinois after all.

$2800 limited edition wheels that took me 8 months to get....

Front rim has 2 dents in it. The rear has 1. The crazy thing is my new tires (Dunlop Direzza Star Specs in 255/35/18) are arriving this afternoon. Go figure.

Insurance adjuster dude is on the way to my house right now. Over the phone they said that in Illinois this is considered a collision, just like if I was to run over a curb. In other words, they don't go after the state, they just claim it as my fault. I love it. I'm hoping that since you can't buy these wheels anymore that they just cut me a check for the cost of 4, not 2.

I think you mean it happened within the city of Chicago and you want to file a police report and then file a claim. That's what you meant to say.

Illinois has a claim procedure. It takes approximately 120-180 days to be reimbursed. They said it was a first come first serve thing, and there is currently over 2,000 claims ahead of me. I told them I would have my insurance company write me a check and that my insurance would then go after the state to reimburse it. Can't wait for the adjuster dude to get here to see what he has to say about it.

If you go through your insurance then your goning to have a dirty carfax, no?! Why not make a police report through the city and take it from there...Why dirty your cars record? It'll bite you in the *** if you go to sell it and it has a bad carfax...

I feel your pain. I just lost 3 wheels to pot holes here in bloomington, il. I eventually had to buy a whole new set. I really hate the illinois weather.
