Autocross in IL this summer
I was talking to some of the members of The Midwest Lancer Club, and we were interested in setting up an autocross event for EVOs and Lancers this summer in the Chicago area.
The problem is none of us are really sure how to organize one of these events.
If anyone is interested or knows how to set up an event like this please let me/us know.
Although I like drag racing I also like to turn and brake so if you can help please do!
Thanks,
Bill

Try Salt Creek Sports Car club. They're part of the Midwest council, but run their own Solo II events. Maybe you'd be interested in co-sponsoring one of the events. There's usually only about 30-40 cars (if that) that regularly run, so adding a bunch of local Lancers and Evos shouldn't put a big dampner on the amount of runs you could get, unlike the local SCCA Solo II runs.

i'm all for an autocross event out in Illinois. There's a guy that lives a couple streets down from me that works for a autocross mag. I can remember which one but back in May/June of last year we and two co-workers were taking a Evo, STi, and GTI R32 (or is it 34? I can never remember.) to Michigan to test them out. It was really cool talking to them for about 2 hours and also it was a German spec GTI. Euro plates and everything. I'll stop by next time I get a chance and ask him for some information. They have a car club too so maybe they'd let others piggy back with them.

Co-sponser with the South Bend Region. That way you can include 3 states of drivers that could possibly attend. SBR holds some of their autox's at the TireRack facility. I've been there a couple of times and it's pretty nice.

I joined the BMW Car Club Club of America.
You do not need to own a BMW to join.
You do need to join the BMW CCA to autocross or participate in track days, and you can't join the BMW CCA at the event.
Most Autocross events are held at Maywood Park in Maywood (there is also one being help @ the Tire Rack in South Bend).
They have 6 autocross events scheduled this year.
Cost for auto cross is usually $30 per car.
Non BMWs have their own class, E, and do not get separated into different classes. How many entrants depends, maybe a dozen, maybe less.
More information can be found at this link:
http://www.windycitybmw.com/autocross/
The track days are 2 day events and usually cost around $350 per person.
There are 3 track days(Road America, Grattan, and Ginngerman) scheduled this year.

They are pretty cool guys and actually hold their dyno days @ AMS.
Oh, and for EVO Bill, they have ice autocross events too.
