SiC, thanks again for your input. Have asked my tuner to come in here to take a look at what you said. Hopefully he knows what you're talking about!
I wish I had a CEL or something. I don't have any CELs! At least if I had a CEL it'd at least give a clue as to what the problem is. Now I've no idea what the problem is and, and no idea where else to look for a fault!
this's killing me..

There has to be a sync issue between the ECM and TCM. When you changed the cams, the phase between the two grew, and the ECM / TCM is probably compensating. I would try relearning, after you verify all is clean and functioning.

This sounds crazy, but any potential damage to any of the plug wires?? That almost sounds like it's misfiring at those lower RPMs. I remember having a similar issue with my truck a few years back. I swore the injectors were dirty because is only happened at low RPMs. One of my plug wires was definitely bad.

I was wondering too about that. the plug wires physically LOOK undamaged. but short of replacing the entire set of wires, how would I know if it's the wires at fault, whether it's these plug wires or any other wires in the car.
have put back my stock map already, ie. pre-any-kind-of-tuning, and it's still the same. I'm going nuts here. changed engine oil too, SST gearbox oil, spark plugs, everything I could think of.
SOMEBODY HELP ME

To check the initial cam timing you pull off your valve cover and turn the crank to top dead center for #1 cylinder. Check the timing marks on your cam sprockets and make sure they are both aligned in the top dead center position.
To check your mivec, you'll need a logger capable of logging mivec degrees such as the Mitsubishi MUT3. I'm not sure but the ECUTek Delta Dash may also support this.
I'm sure you checked but you don't have any intake leaks do you?

my stock cams are back in. and the "problematic" cams have already been installed on another car, and his is PERFECT! none of my problems. have double-checked the installation of my cams at a different workshop and they verified it was done right too. so.. I'm really lost right now.

Is the Timing belt off one tooth, on the cam gears? I wasn't referring to the actual piece of metal that the cams are made from. I don't know much about the 4b11 engine at all, I was just adding my 2 cents. I wish you the best of luck!
