SST & hand brake?
#3
Being able to use the e-brake on an AWD car is determined primarily by the type of center differential, rather than the gearbox. In the case of the EvoIX, X, and RalliArt, pulling on the handbrake signals the center diff computer to set the diff to fully open so you can lock up the rear wheels while still sending power to the front.

The ACD ATTEMPTS to open up the differential when you pull on the handbrakes .. but it does not really free up the diff totally ..
I've known of clowns that think that so and tries to run the Evo on a 2WD dynojet with the handbrakes pulled .. needless to say .. they ended up changing the entire ACD assembly ..

I would be careful on how that is phrased ..

Good insight. I guess it's not surprising that there might always be at least a little friction. What is your take on doing handbrake-induced turns with the ACD? Too dangerous? I suppose race teams can afford to replace the ACD clutches after several races.

It's made to slip, but you just don't want to go overboard by trying to lock up your back wheels and turn the car into a FWD. But to occasionally lock up to drift or whatever, I'm sure the ACD is more than capable of handling this.
