I think some of the reason for these trans being totally replaced is the lack of knowledge the dealerships have. When I bought my Ra about 2 years ago I took it to the dealer to get the weird noise checked out (that was before I was aware of the wierd noises the sst makes) coming from the engine bay. They ended up having my car for a month and said they change the torque lug and thats what was causing the noise. It did stop the noises for a little while but Im pretty sure it was from them changing the fluid when they took the trans out. They had to fix it on their dime because the warranty was void through Mitsubishi because of the previous owner having it modded. Before I bought it I made them sign off that the car would be covered under warranty with the current mods on it or I wouldnt buy it. I bet if it was still covered under warranty buy Mitsubshi they would have replaced the whole trans for normal clutch chatter. Has anyone heard of them changing the drive lug in the trans?

Yep, my local dealer says one of the 3-4 SSTs they have replaced under warranty was due to nothing more than excessive clutch chatter noise.

The modds were on the car when I bought it from the dealership. This dumbass kid I bought it from said it was stock before I test drove it popped the hood and there was a butcher job of a diy intake (he hacked the stock air box) and a vta hks ssqv bov on it along with a manual boost controller. If I had to do it again I wouldnt have bought it but luckly I havent had any problems with it other then the non problme of the clutch chatter.

65k miles on my 08', its my DD and I drive it spirited, its lightly modded to 320 torque.

Any stories of people over 60k miles and tranny going out and somehow getting it replaced without paying? So far mine has been perfect and zero issues, but I cant say that it isn't nerve rattling knowing it could go out in the future and now that im past 60k I have no warranty on it.

The SST will last a very long time in 99% of the cases if you:

1. Dont drive like a tard.

2. Change the filter OFTEN... and every 15K is a good start and more often is better.

3. Change the fluid often.

63K miles still no issues at listed HP in Sig

2010 SB

41600K miles

FFL-2 fluid:
  • Every 30k - flush all fluid and refill
  • Every 10k - empty 4 liters of FFL-2 (fluid at the bottom contains most contaminants) and replace with fresh 4 liters of FFL-2
SSP disposble filter:
  • Every 30k - replace filter
Not a single issue.

What?! Is the SST stock? No upgrade? I thought torque was only good for 350. Does your sst slip?
