08 MR SST Wont shift out of Park! Please help!!

2008 EVO X MR, I changed the battery with a redtop optima. Now the car is stuck in Park and the gear selector wont move. One thing to note, the gear selector light is not illuminating, usually it glows orange to show the gear that the car is in, however I've got no light. I've run through the wiring diagram, checking possible fuses with no success. Please help..

i would go back and check all the fuses, not just a couple. some times there are ones that due multiple circuits but named things you wouldnt think have anything to do with what your looking for... for example when i was a car audio installer people would come in with thing not working in their car , they my have checked some fuses, but ill go under the hood for example and find one or two more they didnt check.

seeing as you put a new battery, there is that chance something popped a fuse

any who, even if its not that, doesnt hurt to try... goodluck!

Are you talking about the light on the actual shift panel or the # on the LCD screen in the gauge cluster?

If you're talking about the shift panel, you definitely blew a fuse. Make sure you check the kick panel fuses as well.

I went through ALL the fuses, I checked all of them with a test light. I did not find any blown fuses under the hood or under the dash, that is whats confusing me. I disconnected the shifter cable and the trans itself goes into gear, so its not a mechanical issue. Its something electrical..

The car starts without any issues, its just not going into gear, also the switch to put in sport or super sport mode isn't functional either.

I just swapped a built shortblock into the car, so I am somewhat mechanically inclined..

The shift panel, not on the cluster. You are correct.

There's usually a switch on the brake arm. That's what releases the parking brake. Normally you'll hear the disengagement.

I had the same issue. I had a bad brake light switch. Replaced it and fixed the problem. advance auto had it. $15. I love easy fixes.
