Best tranny cooler for the MR?

Hey all, do they make a better cooler for the auto tranny then the stock one? Or should I say which do you recommend?

Thanks

I've seen the AMS in-person and it's a very nice kit. MAP and SSP also make one.

While I've not seen the MAP option, I think both the AMS and SSP options are quite nice. Perhaps the SSP cooler, with its second heat exchanger and dedicated pump, will give you extended thermal control over the AMS, but until you get to a very serious level at the track, I think the AMS would be more-than-enough to allow you to run uninterrupted 20-25 minute sessions all day long.

Full disclosure: I own the SSP

See the sticky in this forum.

There are plenty of aftermarket coolers. I personally like the series coolers like HKS, Blitz, SSP more so than the fan mounted replacement coolers (AMS). I was going to go the Blitz route for my track car, but I'm going to build up an VIII track car instead.

The SSP front mount transmission cooler uses a dedicated high volume oil pump, dual pass Setrab cooler, Spal-Fan. Most importantly, our unit mounts up front...not behind the bumper which is the major reason for overheating trans fluid.

SSP Kit for the win! On top of the quality of the cooler and all its included parts, you get great customer service.

Get the SSP Front Mount Transmission Cooler Kit and be done with it!

Gentelmen thanks very much! Yeah I would rather have to much protection then not enough when it comes to the tranny. Holla

I am using OEM fluid, looong debate in the forums, I shall not take sides. Mitisu does not approve of any of the aftermarket fluids so it could be grounds for (or an excuse) denying warrantee work. I did get up to .2 sec faster 60’ times at the drag strip and and firmer feeling shifts with aftermarket SST fluid (probably due to a higher viscosity index) but see little else to recommend it. I had an electronic failure on my SST box whilst I happened to be using an aftermarket SST fluid so I now err on the side of safety and only use oem SSTF-1

2010 MR-T (SST)
Stock clutch packs
OEM DiaQueen SST fluid
SSP trans Deep Sump
SSP Front mount trans cooler
OEM intake w/dropin
CBRD BBX full Turbo
AMS DP
RRE Rally test pipe
MXP II CBE
DP 1000 injectors
BlaqOps single pump
WORKS tune using OP (cleaned up by Bryan)
Green relay (yeah that’s it, it MUST be a faulty fuel pump relay!)

Sweet thanks. Looks like you have the ssp cooler too. Good stuff? Notice any difference with shifts?

Ssp cooler is great. Add the deep pan and use the bung for a temp switch to active the pump and fan.
