But a tranny cooler and clutch upgrade for the SST costs right at $4500. And that takes you to 600 hp.

I haven't run my MR at an official drag strip but I have run more times than I can count from a red light to over, well let's say fast thru and past a quarter mile and not ever had an overheat issue or slow down issue. And I live in Texas where it's over 100 degrees.
Just to clarify, the SSP Trans Cooler and SSP 600hp clutch packs (their top of the line clutch upgrade kit, also available in 400 and 500hp options) will run you $2350 just in parts, probably another $1000 at least for labor. That takes you to $3500 or so but gives you RELIABILITY up to 600hp. There are other options as well to increase that reliability, like doing the fog light delete. I don't know of ANYONE that has seen the dreaded "Slow Down" message after even doing the Trans Cooler. At 600hp you're looking at a fully build motor anyway so $3500 is a drop in the bucket. Me personally? I'd start with the trans cooler then the 600s. The 400s just don't seem to be worth it considering the stock clutches are good for around that power level and for $100 more than the 500s you get the 600s.

SSP Trans Cooler package - 950.00
SSP deep trans pan - 700
SSP upgraded DCT seals - 550
SSP 400hp clutches - 1000
SSP 500hp clutches - 1300
SSP 600hp clutches - 1400

Definitely not bored with my SST. I got it brand new in October and have loved the hell out of it every single day. My goal is to get the Greddy Spec Oil Cooler Kit and the Greddy Circuit Spec SST Trans Cooler Kit then the FP Green and Cosworth MX1 Cams and a tune from AMS along with a total fuel delivery upgrade from AMS and an upgraded Greddy Intercooler for my X over the course of the next two years while in college at UT. Beautiful thing when you have a tech job and just finishing up your degree gets you a nice fat bonus to throw at your car. I was gonna just buy a GTR but I want to keep the EVO. I am very much so in love with it and the Transmission is a definite plus when you sit in DC 495/95/395 traffic on a regular basis.

I'll buy another 350Z just for drifting because I am a fan of that platform and I learned it and that'll be in a MT.

I lurrrve that SST.

I did 7+ years punting a manual 5-speed around tracks/autox. Got heel-and-toe down pat. Never blew up the box or over-revved the engine with a bad shift. It really was brilliant fun.

But the SST is a breath of fresh air. I use paddle-shift all the time, love the quick shifts, the automatic throttle-blip, the feel of it.

My old car was n/a, so I had instant power in each new gear. But the turbocharged RA has this funky SST that shifts at WOT... so again, it just powers right on through upshifts with no loss of get-up-and-go. Just think - with a turbo larger than a party-whistle, the advantage would be even greater.

I know this is a few days old but I'm debating the same thing. I swore to myself I'd never own an auto but rush hour gets rough on my left leg...
Just have a few questions.

1. How quick are shifts when using the paddles?
2. When it's in manual mode, will the car still shift for you if revs get too high/low or is it entirely in your control?
3. What are the different shift modes(normal, sport, super sport)? What do they change?

There are dual clutch packs so the next set is always engaged so the shifts are uber quick, faster then any human could ever do.

No it will not upshift for you in manual, however it will downshift for you if the speed gets too low, so it will never stall if you get distracted.

They change clamp rate, clamp pressure, shift speed, shift strategy/map, etc
