Any tc-sst owners bored of their tranny?

I'm debating on getting a GSR or an MR, and I was wondering if any of you MR owners have gotten bored of the transmission yet?

Yes I have test driven both extensively, and the first few times I drove the MR, I thought it was heaven, then the 3rd time I test drove it, I newness kinda wore off and I thought it was a bit boring.

I just want to know, HONESTLY.... Do you guys ever get bored and wish for the good old stick?

I feel a bit of the opposite

working at a dealership, I test-drive tons of GSR's (since we rarely stocked MR's), and they were fun to drive, reminding me how fun a manual feels

but by the time of the test-drive is over, I'm over it. I've owned/driven manual enough that it's just a "normal" transmission to me. the TC-SST is the new, better-performing, and potential future transmission technology; the manual is starting to feel like a novelty

but everyone's different, so /shrug

So many jokes come to mind here.

Seriously, I love my MR. I wouldn't trade it for anything except a GTR. Which of course also has an automated manual. Being able to have one hand free when driving is nice. Of course just from the practical stand point the MR is faster hp for hp than the GSR.

Agree 100%

I've only had mine a month, so maybe the newness hasn't worn off, but I simply never want to own a manual. I had one once, and while revving up and driving "aggressively" can be fun, what's the point? The auto is more efficient while still outperforming, so win-win.

I am over 6 months on mine, still not bored. Prefer it to a manual now. I love that it doesn't lose boost between shifts and that it shifts so quickly. It makes for a very quick DD.

No one is discussing their track experience though, will you be auto x'ing or drag racing? I've seen many tcsst's run 15's on the drag strip due to just awful overheating and poor launch technique http://youtu.be/76OQUcgt8g0. I've honestly wished I got tc-sst instead of manual a few times, like when I had to replace my clutch master cyl. but then when I go to race, I remember why I didn't even want to test drive a tcsst in the first place. If your modding there are things to consider that are extra with a tc vs mt like clutch pack or tranny cooler instead of just buying a clutch and cmc with a tcs-sst also you may be limited in how much power you can make. Either way you can't go wrong with either one it's just about what your looking to do with it.

You can drive the SST 3 different ways to keep it from feeling boring everyday.

1) full auto
2) paddle shifters
3) push/pull on the shift knob

Also 3 different modes to play with: normal, sport, & super sport.

Once mine is warmed up I typically use Sport mode with the paddles. Driving in a straight line/accelerating it CAN get boring.....but since I've gotten more used to the function of the paddles spirited driving around corners is IMMENSE fun....nothing puts a smile on my face like hard cornering. Drag racing gets boring (still haven't launched mine)....but TA style? Never. Maybe I'm just an adrenaline junky.

If you doubt, then just buy a manual. You could hear 100 people say that they're bored of manual and love the SST and you'll still need more confirmation, yet if you only hear of one person getting bored of the SST you'll side with them.

I personally am bored of the SST and am willing to downgrade to a GSR when I can do it without losing too much money.

The TC-SST is a godsend on the autocross course. I leave it in Auto / S-Sport, and I don't know of anyone else who uses 1st and 3rd gear as much as me.

When I want my manual transmission fix, I jump in my gf's Protege.

I love my SST. When I want a more raw driving experience I drive my S2000.

I would always choose MT for a RWD car, but for AWD with all the electronics, there's not all that much "modulating" that can be done.

The SST is not for drag racing but if that's what you want to do... You don't drop the shifter from neutral to drive that the idiot in that video did. You don't use launch control. You power and brake at the same time. It's the best you can realistically hope for. I don't honestly know what a strong clutch job costs on a GSR. But a tranny cooler and clutch upgrade for the SST costs right at $4500. And that takes you to 600 hp.

I haven't run my MR at an official drag strip but I have run more times than I can count from a red light to over, well let's say fast thru and past a quarter mile and not ever had an overheat issue or slow down issue. And I live in Texas where it's over 100 degrees.

I like the TC-SST, and I'm *not* going back to a MT. I've driven MTs constantly for the last 10 years and I'm hooked on the TC-SST. It consistently knows what gear to be in, and if I want to run the show myself, a simple pull on the paddles or a yank on the stick gets me all the way there but for the foot action.

It is a little wonky, I admit. It does clunk a little at stoplights, and it will shift hard when going into first at a stoplight as well, from time to time. It feels like a manual someone else is shifting when it does that. No big thing, because under power it is smoooooth as silk.

lol at the guy running 15s.
First time i went to the track I did 3 runs all 13.4xx all within 0.02 of each other. Consistent and way better then I could do if it was a manual.

I dont think I would ever choose a manual again if there is the option of a good dual clutch box.
