I'll donate my time. I'm good with assembler, hex dumps, binary, reversing the polarity of deflector shields to generate subspace fields, etc. Plus I have an SST.

Just my opinion... If you and others want to give money then by all means that's your choice, but don't come here and try to call out people for not "stepping up".
how are vendors and tuners going to profit from it when it will be OPENSOURCE?

Awesome. do you chat with Tephra a lot? I believe that him, razorlab, and colby from tactrix will be doing most of the work.

... because the COMMUNITY benefits. And the likelihood that while it is opensource available is obvious, the community benefited from the 1st gear TPS defeat (cracked by the same people ). It is opensource and will be available soon FROM COBB as an OTS update as well. Maybe get involved and pay closer attention to whats being done by who.

Don't pollute this thread

I don't know what you would do and what you wouldn't, there are a lot of stupid people out there and you were very cryptic in your first post not providing much detail... It came off as more of an "Hey, I have this idea, whos on board." type situation. I still dont get the point, if you wanna setup a way for people to donate then do it, this thread is useless. As I said before everyone is willing to SAY they will, but most the time, only a few people actually do. Look at any group thread. Sorry, but its fact. So setup a actual donation system, and lets actually make progress. I also think you'll get more response if you provide more info.

Who is this vendor that is donating a TCU?
Who are the people doing the work?
What will the money be used for?
Are there other ways we can help?

Again, I wasn't trying to "pollute" your thread, it was an attempt to help you out and let you know how your coming off. If Bryan says "hey, im trying to do this, I need to raise x amount of money" I'll donate as much as I can. But I don't know you from Adam, and I can only guess others feel the same way.

You forgot to demand "What's your favorite color?" in your list of questions.

Your out of the loop, do some reading.

And no, for a $10 donation you don't get a new SST with SSS-Sport and an autograph from Tommi Maikennen.

One problem here is the fact that there are two main X modding-related forums, but links from here to there get auto-censored by EvoM's filtering. It's not a trivial exercise finding the "other" threads and discussions.

I frequently visit the *Other Place*, but I must admit... even I haven't actually found the SST Black Project Donation Project thread.

So the communication lines are pretty iffy before you even start trying to cat-herd interest in something like this.

I guess I was mistaken. I forgot that no one charges for services performed using opensource tools and maps.

Don't mind me, I'll be on my way now and leave you guys to collecting money and flaming those who raise any questions or concerns.

We're using the money to buy tons of drugs, obviously.

I know the answers to these questions are available on other forums, but not everyone goes there, or even reads that thread. I know the answers to every single question I asked. Again, I'm trying to help by pointing out that the op has not provided enough info. I'm done trying here though, people act too immature and childish and fail to see the bigger picture or do anything but argue and flame when someone points out flaws in their thread... the simpler and helpful approach would be to edit the op to include some additional details. Not everyone is out to get you on the interwebs, remember that.

Sorry to be rude, we are assuming everyone knows whats going on and that is not good. Here is an explanation of what is going on:

We've all been waiting for the SST transmission to be unlocked for going on 4 years now. The backbone of the SST is it's complex mechatronic control ECU (called the TCU). Without being able to tune these parameters, upgrades like mega-clutches and fluid coolers mean little. The process has been very slow because the amount of time and resources involved has been underestimated by most, including companies that have tried and failed.

So, a group of enthusiasts is setting up a donation to help a group of specialists from around the world to help tackle the problem.

The whole project involves a lot of people but the first order of business has to be getting the TCU to Colby and Bryan. This is where everything starts.

Did you know...........

1) Tables controlling parameters of the SST operation have been defined on the ECU side
2) People are tuning those parameters now in an early testing stage
3) The TCU is buried inside the SST, so no one has "read it" yet
4) You can't "read" the TCU through the CAN bus yet
5) The TCU has to be benched to be fully mapped
6) Parameters inside the TCU are unkown, but theories include line pressure modifications, temp target tables, and more advanced slip control, etc.

So we need to bench the TCU, and that is where money should be going. Beyond the TCU there is much development work in order to create tables and analyze them. There is also dyno time that needs to be paid for.

All kudding and bs aside, Way to spell it out so everyone understands. I'm down for at least $100, possibly more... Depends on finances with the baby due next month. When's the PayPal donation button go up and is it going directly to Bryan or someone else?
