Part Comparison: VIII vs. IX Water Pump

I get tons of people who always ask 'whats the difference between the water pumps on the VIII & IX. Ive never really known until this morning. I was asked yesterday and I decided that I would finally do a comparison like I had planned for a year or so.

It appears the only difference is the alternator bracket mounting point that is on the IX Water Pump. See the illustrations below.

EVOLUTION VIII WATER PUMP - 1300A065 MSRP $195.00
EVOLUTION IX WATER PUMP - 1300A067 MSRP $238.90

So basically you pay $43.90 for a mounting point.

EVOLUTION VIII FINS - NO DIFFERENCE

EVOLUTION IX FINS - NO DIFFERENCE

I'm bring this thread back from the dead.

I've been in the process of gathering parts for my 2.4L build. And the waterpump price difference led me to this thread. So I came to the conclusion that a Ix needs a Ix waterpump.

Fast forward to today, I was working on my IX. Reinstalling my Intake manifold, and I noticed something.. Something not right. I was running an VIII Waterpump because it didn't have the tab!!!
The correct bracket was still used, It was bolted using a lower intake manifold bolt and a bolt to the top of the alternator. But the 3rd hole on the bracket that goes to the waterpump was NOT USED because their was no tab for it.

I Ordered all the parts and had them sent to a friends shop while I was overseas. And he did all the maintance along with a bunch of other crap.
Now the interesting part, How long have I been running it this way? About 26-27k
If it even makes a difference, I made 526whp, and Road raced the car numurous times. I never encountered a problem from this at all.
I know what my next water pump is going to be....

Back from the dead, couldn't one just pick up an evo viii alt bracket and use it in place of an evo ix bracket?

i see Gates as low as $60ish. wow.

i assume they work on both and that is why Gates has not bothered to make a IX-specific pump.

i wondered if the bracket would have a tendency to swivel from the head/IM mount.. but it seems to be resting on the alternator. i'm assuming that is how the VIII mounts anyway.
