AMS in One Lap of America
#16
T-minus 9 days.
'Sticker day" as they call it is April 29th, and is where competitors register, put all the sponsor decals on the car and get teched for the event. Even with all that its the calm before the storm.
I will be testing the AMS car this weekend in final One Lap trim at Autobahn Country Club in Joliet, IL with an Alfa club up there. We will be dialing in Tire pressures, fine tuning alignment, and getting our base damper settings.
When I spoke with their organizer, he said "We have some Z06s who think they are pretty fast, I think they are in for a surprise."
We will also be learning how to pack the car/trailer. Somewhat of an art form for this event.
Stay tuned here for results and pictures from the test and the event, I hope to keep everyone up to speed on our efforts.

A guy from Cincy is doing it again this year in his supercharged Z06. He makes about 750 hp. I think he finished just behind the top Evo last year and has a stronger car this year. When I was at a track-day at VIR last fall, there were a bunch of '05 1-lappers learning the track. Included was a wild tube-frame pickup truck with a monster motor. It will be great to have an Evo to cheer on again this year.

It is an experience, I did it in 2003 so I am not a "pup" as they call rookies. (Lap Dogs and Lap Pups)
2003 I was driving for David Jordan and Jim Hudson Mitsubishi (Dealer in Columbia, SC) in a Stock Evo VIII. We eneded up finishing 16th overall (of 84) and 3rd in class, but we "won" the last 5 events in class. It was a blast to do it in the stock Evo, having to push and leaving the modded Z06s, Porsches and such we were in the middle of scratching their heads..
I really fell in love with the Evo that week, so to get to run the AMS Evo in its racing form is really incredible.
When I did it in 03 we had a rooftop carrier, which has two problems.. 1) it is hard to mount and dismount, and 2) it gave us a tank milage range of 200 miles if we were lucky. So this time we are routing the hitch out the spot for the license plate so it doesn't get in the way of the diffuser. Ask me later where we will mount the license plate.. I need one of those dealer tag magnet things, I would put it on the trailer, but I think we are already going to be a magnet for blue lights in an Evo with about a billion stickers and #s.

Quote OT I know.. But I'd really like some input.. Will the Vishnu rear diffuser work with the AMS exhaust system? It sits straight much like the Vishnu, and apears to use a smaller can (at least width wise).
