As I typed that i thought to myself "I hope the trunk isn't aluminum.. "
I wonder what Martin thinks of duct tape..
j/k
Sounds like its going to get propped in the back window.

I am planning on doing daily updates, either from hotel, or flying J internet, so stay tuned to this thread.
The Evo trunk is not aluminum, tried a magnet on it about 2 hours ago and it worked.
I am up here in the Chicago area, and spent the day at AMS, awesome bunch of guys. Tomorrow we will be testing the Evo out at Autobahn Country Club, a new track here in Joliet.
Today we bedded brakes, and installed the AMS Widebody kit. (pictures coming soon, some assembly requored.. a hint: I think Carlos who does bodywork next door fainted when he saw us.. something about a baseball bat not being a tool..)
I cant wait to get out there and try it, I hope we get some good footage of on track stuff to post tomorrow.

T-minus 5 days.
With only a week remaining we made good use of the weekend before One Lap.
Saturday I got to visit the AMS shop for the first time. cars, cars, more cars, fabrication equipment, parts, dyno, .. I wonder if Martin would just let me set up a cot in there..
The stack of Bridgestone Potenza RE050 One Lap of America Tires.
The tours ended quickly and it was time to get to work on the car, we had to do the final engine installation work, mostly just connecting stuff, and I use the term "we" loosely. Martin and Justin worked, I stood there and took pictures, and played with the Vishnu diffuser. (which isn't on the car yet, so I cant speak about how it fits)
The Bridgestone 285/30/18s were on the car, and sitting on the lift it looked like a super modified with the tires sticking out..
The big question: "How much is it going to rub?"
Meanwhile.. its snowing outside.. the day before I was in SC and it was 86'
We get the car together and take it for a trip down the road, with two people in the back it was rubbing something fierce. sccchhheeecccc scccchhheeeechh every time we hit a bump. We got back to the shop and call in Carlos, the body shop guy, to roll the fenders. He isn't enthused. Select quotes are "I dont have the right tools" "These wheels are not supposed to be on this car"
So.. with Carlos into constructing and not destructing, its time to go dig through the scrap bin for the AMS widebody installation kit.
Once we had the kit it was time to see how much we were going to mess up the fenders. I was sure that this was where Martin would kick me out of the shop for wanting these tires, and I was going to find myself in the 30' Chicago evening with a t-shirt on.
But.. Martin jumps right in to help install the AMS widebody kit:
You would be surprised how much abuse the Evo fenders will actually take, it took many many passes to get the right distance. (and actually a 2nd road trip where it was still rubbing)
Finally we had what we thought was a good amount of space, and it was time to go get some rest. We would meet at the track at 7am.
Day 2: Alfa Romeo Club track day at Autobahn Country Club in Joliet.
Agenda: Get some maps down, get the shocks set, see how the tires wear, make sure alignment is right.. etc.
Some cars that were there:
Some Lap Times:
Dodge Neon: 1:25
Ferrari 360: 1:18
Porsche GT3: 1:15.9
Lotus Exige: 1:14s
Nissan 350z (on R compounds) 1:13.9
Dodge Ram Tube frame truck: 1:13.6
AMS Evo VIII: 1:11.11
The car is amazingly comfortable, the Brigestone tires are a bit tricky when cold (under 100') but come in great and work well in the 120'-190' range. The Advans i can go pretty much hot right away on, but they get greasy after 4-5 laps and I have to either relax to let them cool, or just drive them differently. With a long run of 14 laps on the 050's i never felt them get greasy, and I was trying. The StopTech brakes are PLENTY, I would love to actually push their limits with some r compounds, but the limiting factor with street tires was their braking level. (granted I was standing on them from straight line speed in the 120s, 130s and 115mph range. The 14 inch rotors are going to do well though, with 3 very hard and long braking zones in 1.5 miles, I never felt fade.. The buddy clubs performed well again, and as with the R compounds at the first session, they like to be run high in the adjustment range to settle the car and make it point and go through mid corner better, we are still working on a throttle on push, but the LSD is going in this week.
So we went home the fastest car on track, tires that still look brand new after 75 or so track miles, and a "hell yes!" trap speed of 138.6 mph on an 800 foot straight.
Our fender rolling? It works. Even with bumping over the curbs there was no rubbing at the track. (just ignore the little silver specs of paint on the shop floor)
I cant wait till next week.

No video, the DVD recorder we had out there was shutting off so we didn't get a set of laps.. the session I most wanted was when i ran down a 360 hard top, 360 spyder, testarossa, Exige, and an NSX all in like 4 laps.
I should have some still pictures of the truck in the next day or so, they are on "real" film though, so I have to get it developed.
The tube frame truck was testing tires, still deciding what he wants to go with for One Lap (he is also running it) But seeing our times compared to his, I am optomistic.
