Need some advice
Here's the breakdown:
My dad has a 2005 STi, stock, traded a 03 Evo for it.
Thing is, he needs a serious AWD track car.
He's looking for 450-500Hp, reliable car that can take some abuse and basically be race prepped.
He's willing to get a 05 Evo RS and go to town on it, but I'm also willing to tweak the subaru.
I'd like to hear some advice from others that have done up an Evo like this, and most importantly, how it is holding up.
Basically, it has to compete with my Z06 (which is FAR from stock).
If anyone has done the subaru route, an switched over to the Evo route for racing, I'm extremely interested in what you have to say.
edit: has to be able to be in the 4000rpm+ range for 2.5 hours x 52 weeks.

An Evo would probably be a better start as far as HP goes. Has he considered some of the AWD Porsches? They're very fast and very capable. There are also tons of parts ready to make any Porsche track ready. Join a Porsche club and dig in.

I have a 2002 911 Twin Turbo. The parts are there, but maint. parts etc. way too much money tied up in those. I think it was 185K for car and parts for a 996 TT.
Besides, wrapping a Evo or an STi around a tree would be far less nerve wracking than totalling a 911.
edit: Im in the War Bonnet Region PCA., used to drive a 951

There are +/- for either car, subi and evo. As far as *cheaper* AWD turbo cars go, they win. Porsches are great cars but, as you said, expensive to wreck and tune. If you have the time and money for a serious track car your possiblities are endless. It all depends on what class you want to run, and what you want to race against. I have seen many Evos wipe the floor with many 60-90K cars. Evos have better handling out of the box than the subi, but the 6 speed from the STi can help at the track compaired to the standard 5 speed in the base Evo. It comes down to time and money, and brand loyalty well for some people.
Some none AWD cars that get underrated are the Nissan 240's (Silva K's) with (heres the money part - R34 engines talking 500 hp). But as long as you dont blow the engine other parts are cheap to replace. -- Just a thought
