What type of tape do you use on your lights?
Hey trackers,
I'm planning on attending a road course session soon...I've noticed a lot of ppl put a type of tape on their headlights and even bumpers to prevent gravel from killing your front end at 100+mph...what type of tape do you use? Is it safe for the paint?

No no no. You can't use masking tape. You have to use "racer's tape" Masking tale is slow. Lot's of wind resistance. racer's tape actually increases horsepower by reducing drag. If you use enough racer's tape you can actually go hypersonic with an Evo (make sure you have at least a Buscher cat-back first)
gee, what some people ask.

Racer's tape is nice because it's got a tough backing like duct tape but the adhesive won't ruin your paint. Automotive masking tape (the green stuff by 3M) is even more gentle on the finish. I've bought racer's tape through HMS Motorsport in Peabody, MA. Here's a direct LINK.
You can buy the 3M stuff at Home Depot.

Any hardware store will have it. Ask for "Painter's Tape." It is usually blue, although sometimes other colors like light green or tan. It comes in 1", 1 1/2" and 2" widths. Get the 2" wide painter's tape, it is faster to tape up your headlights with the wider tape. Four horizontal strips for each headlight is all you need.
I also cover my license plates with it, lest my insurance co. or MMNA see a pic of my car at the track posted on the internet.
I had some blue and green tape one track day, and had a little fun:
