not if it is dry carbon and the point is that you lose some.

How much lighter is a dry carbon hood? I'd imagine the law of diminishing returns takes hold considering their cost. Just like with bicycles, being a weight weenie can get expensive:

1 gallon of gasoline weighs approximately 6 lbs.

what? you misunderstand. this discussion comes out all the damn time and no on understands that minor weight savings in critical places means an overall increased weight savings.

yeah you can do the doors for less, but if you do BOTH the doors AND the lids then guess what... MORE WEIGHT SAVINGS. but everyone has to talk about WAH WAH WAH IT COSTS TOO MUCH.

then let's all please stop talking about this.

if you got the money go for it. If its going to make you struggle financially then its probably not the best idea. I'm just meeting in the middle getting great carbon fiber quality pieces in the most critical areas I can for as cheap as I can.

HKS carbon ti catback $250 good friend hook up used - 6 pound drop
Carbon brake cooler guides $61 shipped won ebay auction CHEAP! 1 pound gain?
Carbon ralliart sideview mirrors too cheap to say got hooked up - 5 pound drop front/high/critical area
did other things like take out spare tire for additional drops.

total I think im about 82 pounds dropped which takes care of the ssl and a little more. I never fill my gas to the top either.

The great thing is all my carbon fiber matches with the oem spoiler weave/twill or whatever pattern.

that's it for now but I'm gonna keep adding over the years, not too much of a rush but I gotta say I am enjoying the weight savings a lot. Probably going to get a VIS hood next, they are local I can go pick up and save on shipping.

There is actually one slight disadvantage I see to being lighter though. I noticed if you are light and hit bumps, your nose stays in the air longer, and you have less front traction. But if I had adjustable coilovers I guess I would be able to tune the suspension for it(or lower spring rates but I'm still stock). And if the road was perfect it wouldn't matter much.

Carbon fiber is bad *** though, I swear my car started oversteering/neutral and sliding in a totally different/better manner after all my weight shavings, and I'm still on stock suspension.

there is a bunch of threads regarding this subject but most do not discuss weight. can anyone summarize if this lightweight trunk or a similar product is still available.

Not sure, Robi got them for Nils back in the day (holy old thread bump captain). I have the hood but not the trunk and it wasn't much different from the 9 pieces in weight. There's (literally) hundreds of carbon hoods and trunks to choose from these days. The JDM stuff obv being the best, the general rule is if it costs that much, it weighs that little and fits that well - and it goes down in fit and up and weight from there. However as most people should know the lighter it is the more flexible it is....especially at high speeds.
