Hello members of the Evo board!

We are posting this (and hopefully it is ok to do so here, and not considered spam) to let you know about our upcoming race.

In brief: In November of 2006, La Carrera Panamericana will be opened for the first time to modern day production cars! 100% legal. 100% race.

La Carrera Panamericana is the last great road race in existence. It is fully sanctioned by the Mexican Government, Police, and Tourism board.

The Unlimited Class at La Carrera Panamericana will take place from November 9th to 16th of 2006, starting in Oaxaca, Oaxaca and finishing in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon. For the inaugural race, the modern cars will be a separate class immediately proceeding the traditional Historic race.

The approximate length will be 3,050 km. La Carrera Panamericana will be divided into seven stages (days) over paved roads. The race consists of timed travel sections and unlimited velocity sections. Detailed information can be found in the "Application" section of our website.

The Unlimited Class will consist of any production car manufactured after 1990. It will operate under the same rules and authority of La Carrera Panamericana Historic racing. There will be case by case exceptions made for some "super cars" such as the Ferrari Enzo, Bugatti Veyron, and Mercedes Clk-Gtr in regard to roll cages, hood locks, and tow hooks.

In 2006, the Unlimited Class will be limited to twenty entrants. Prize monies will be awarded to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place each day in addition to an overall winner's purse. Further information is in the "Application" section of our site.

Wow, entree fees in the 13,000-15,000 dollar range!!!!! I don't know how many people with 30k dollar cars are gunna splurge for this one.

Not to mention the fact that a rollcage for certain supercars that fit into the unlimited class are not required to have a rollcage is downright stupid. To me even if installing a roll cage in a supercar might decrease its value it is by no means a reason to excuse them, if anything a more extensive cage should be spec'd for the faster classes. Seems like a lil shady, like Barret Jackson got stuck on a road course or something....

I'd think that a 30k EVO could definatly be a contender in the race. So ... with a possible 100k in prize money .. if 2 guys split the cost .. it seems fairly balanced if you think you are any good at driving fast.

In regard to rollcages and harnesses ... we cannot imagine that someone entering this race to win the 100k US would not have a full race set up. It would only be after lengthy discussion and driver interviews that we would possibly allow a car in without the cage. If a driver wanted to run an Enzo but simply could not imagine devaluing it by sticking a cage in it all we are saying is that it is a ***possibility*** ... A possibility that is not in any way a *** given ***.

What does the prize purse look like by order of finish? Might make it worth spending the money.

We do the Targa Newfoundland every year, but haven't been interested in Carrera because we run modern cars. Oh yeah, and there's that whole "Third World country hospital" issue. ;-)

$5,000 USD of your entry fee goes to prize money that will be split by the participating drivers in The Unlimited Class. Based on a field of twenty participants, the prize money will be awarded as such:

$50,000 USD to the overall Unlimited Class winner.
$4,000 USD for the daily Unlimited Class stage winner.
$2,000 USD for the daily Unlimited Class second place finisher.
$1,000 USD for the daily Unlimited Class third place finisher.

If there are less than twenty cars participating in the Unlimited Class, the overall prize money awarded will decrease proportionally by the amount of $5,000.00 USD per car. We expect 25 cars with 5 or so more historic vehicles running in our class.


We also travel with medics and ambulances. American doctors drive the historics and are on site, and you always have the option of using a medical airlift insurance company that will get you from anywhere and take you to the states for a somewhat nominal fee.

I think the reason they would let some supercars run without roll cages is because of the construction. Composite/autoclave cars are not going to be in need of a cage the way an evo would be.

For instance, the McLaren F1 is the only car tested that could have driven away from its 30mph crash test.
