The EVO X 5 speed is a completely different transmission. I've had a 2008 EVO-X 5 speed over here for about a month that I've been working with and I'll post my findings later once I'm done with it but I will say this they fixed quite a bit of the problems in the new 5 speed transmissions and it certainly is a stronger more durable transmission.

Mike - I have >400ft lbs torque rating on my 05 MR with 26k mi and a stock clutch. My motor is in great shape, my stock clutch is in great shape and the transmission fluid doesn't contain metal residue. I use all Motul fluids (oil/trans/diffs).
I do not use a cooler, I do not launch the car. At least half the miles are from road course or weekend warrior on/offramp abuse i nthe northeast. I spend most of my time in 3,4,5 gears.
Sure, one day I may have a problem, but I'm going on year 3 and the only parts ever needing replacement was an A/C sensor ($40 part) and the equivalent to my harmonic balancer (odd, right?!?!).
Don't live in fear, drive smoothe and enjoy your car.

Did you use the Gear 300 in your tranny? If so how have you liked it? I just changed to it...seems to work good but didn't really take away the notchiness in 2nd gear when cold.

There is a 4x4 place that has large drums of it, and repackages it in 2 quart containers. I think it's somewhere in this thread.
Your best bet is to get it online (for a discount), because at the dealer it's about 20 bucks per quart. I have been using it since 12,000 miles and now I have 77,000+ miles on my car. You must change the oil every 7500 miles for these results, however (in my experience).

Possibly the so called notchiness is due to worn syncros. Maybe a couple flushes of Motul will fix your issue as the old fluid is fully drained? There are a few possible culprits...
Make sure you warm up your car and drive it easy for the first few minutes and your issue should be minimized (not solved).

i havent tried any of the other brands but i used diaqueen since new and the last year switched to redline and feel its smoother...it does feel notchy a bit when its been sitting in the cold overnight but then its fine once warmed up...I do have all the parts already for my own cooler setup but its too cold to sit out there and do it...has anyone used checkvalves to prevent any backflow as the cooler is higher than the transmission and if so which did you use
