Not true.... A high quality synthetic will run cooler to start with and the AMSOIL MTG has a Superior Film Strength compared to other lubes.
I have been able to run the AMSOIL SVG 75W-90 in an application specifying a 75W-140. This particular application has problems shearing the teeth off of the Ring and Pinion. 345,000 miles later under severe use,.... Overweight and heavy towing to over twice the recommended limits, no problems using the 75W-90.
Unless this thing is out on the track for hours at one time without cool down time, there should be no reason for a cooler.

No disrespect meant as I'm an AMSOIL guy myself, but you don't know what you're talking about for this application. When you've spent the tens of thousands of dollars on transmissions and gear oil to actually test each new theory like Marty and I have, then we can talk. For now guys, if you seriously track your Evo, put a cooler on it regardless of what gear oil you use.

Sorry haven't been following this thread since I did the 5-speed swap. The tranny cooler that SCCA allows is the Setrab: SET616600 Series STD 16 Row Oil Cooler - 13" x 4 3/4" tall and mine is mounted in the front upper grille just in front of the radiator.

I forgot to update this thread (I was razorlab back then)
I destroyed my second 6 spd right at 60k, so another 30k. I guess 30k is all I can get out of these things. Two down... wasn't going to try another....
Finally put a 5spd in and haven't looked back.
