In-car Videos from Thunderhill July 6th

Here are some vids from a EVO meet at Thunderhill July 6th.

Couple things different from the last set of vids I did at Thunderhill:

1. I used a wide angle lense. Not sure if I like it better then without it. At the current camera mount angle I think it shows too much of the inside of the car and not as much of the track. The video compression also has a harder time with it so the overall video quality once compressed isn't as good as before. Pros: You can see my guages and both my hands.

2. I mounted the Mic in a different part of the trunk closer to the exhuast. I did this thinking the exhaust would be louder. In fact, it was the opposite. I ended up getting more wind noise then before (I don't run with the back seats in so wind can get into the trunk through the sides) so I actually got LESS exhaust noise then before and overall just is too much wind distortion.

Here are the vids, both flash and WMV versions:

1. First couple laps in the 2nd session
Flash video - streaming
WMV video - 24mb

2. Couple laps with no traffic
Flash video - streaming
WMV video- 23mb

3. Some more laps and my buddy Mike in his EVO who doesn't want to lift when he points me by.
Flash video - streaming
WMV video- 14mb

4. Losing 4th gear in my tranny. If you listen well you can hear the vibration and nastiness, I lose it in the middle of turn 1
Flash video - streaming
WMV video - 14mb

i dig the wideangle. I'd just give it a touch of zoom though.

might be a preference thing, but i dig it.

Not knowing any better, is it just a screw on filter kinda affair or what, where'd you get it from? what camera ya running?

It's zoomed in a little already. Heh. I think maybe I need to put the mount off to the side or higher up on the rollbar or something.

It's a screw on lense by SunPak. I think it was $45

I think the camera mount with the rubber bushing helps alot too. If you notice in the warmup video when I came out of the pits I do a full WOT 1st through 3rd banging through the gears. Camera didn't skip a beat.

the last time i heard that statement, i had a guy make a suicide move in a hard braking zone to my inside, during an hpde. (no point, no nothin, right in front of the flag stand)

He was ejected, and told he could come back and pick up his gear in 2 days

On topic: I'm using the same mount, only had it give up a few times when i killed the rumble strips, and the camera mis-focuses on the windsheild

Both of these guys are very experienced, and two of the most level-headed folks you will ever meet at an open tracking event. Bryan is just teasing with Mike.

oh, i know, comrodery (sp?) is a great thing.

Any of the evo guys i know wouldn't lift, but when it came time to brake, they'd brake early, or give me the room i needed to hold my line.

He had plenty of room and time to get past me before the braking zone. I consider myself a very safe driver, but I have to mess with Bryan sometimes. I did lift, just a little though. :P Honestly, I'm so used to driving the Honda at that track that I never have to lift to let anyone by me, unless its a miata. haha. But ya, Percy has shared the track with both Bryan and myself numerous times so he knows us pretty well. I too was teasing Bryan with that statement, I pointed him by, I was obviously letting him through.

Put your camera on manual focus then.

Btw, Mike gave me tons of room to pass and set up for the next corner. I was just giving him a hard time.
