ah, it's easy to get them all mixed up when they throw them into different cars I guess, especially when I go confusing the issue by mentioning the LMP engine.
It's funny, when i was driving the BMW Powered LMP people kept saying "ooh, the V-12.. " I almost felt bad saying "no a V8" almost..

Yea it does doesn't it.. Norbert, the designer on the Normas favors that pointed center nose that brings up memories of the Mach 5.
A version an older M20, notice the slightly different nose:
The Norma M 2000-01 LMP 900, this is the car I drove at Rolex.
The Norma M 2000-02 the 2002 LMP 900 model.
I drove this one on a test day, but not in competition, this had a Roush 6 liter Ford V8, and jesus it would slam the eyes in the back of your skull. When I watch the video of the hillclimb M20, it reminds me of how it felt to drive this car, like the world was in fast-forward. Too bad that the bigger engine also ment higher center of gravity, which made it a bit wicked to drive.

Hello, Jon!
I thought you looked better in my Evo than you do in the LMP- well, at least you can see more of your face in my car.
Come back to Highlands when you get tired of the fancy rides- I just got some V710s in 275/40/17 for you to try out!

They were going to try to sell the M20 in the states, and I was talking to them about that when they decided to pack it in. Had Grand Am stuck with the LMP style prototype, things might have been different, but competing in the ALMS ment Audi-type budgets, which just wasn't working.
So now, I "only" get to pilot the AMS time attack car.. (along with a couple of Formula Cars, a Showroom Stock Neon, and the occasional Ferrari/Porsche/Civic while instructing students.
Rick,
I keep looking for an event, but AMS has kept me hopping this year, I almost showed up at Bele-Chere last week, but had promised my GF a day at the beach with my weekend off.. Hopefully as things slow down late in the year I can come back up and drive, I am always willing to help people wear out tires. (Edit, looking at the schedule, I might have to make plans to come up for the two remaining nite-series events)

Norma also built LMPs for a couple of years, I drove their Norma/BMW at Daytona in the 24 hours.. had we put a shorter gearset in, it probably would have looked a lot like that.
The sports racer in the video was actually designed to be a chassis that you could buy to club race, and if you wanted to, move all the way up to LMP 675 with the same car, just run a different engine/gearbox. They stopped selling cars here in the states, so I am not sure what became of it once I lost contact with the team.
