Yeah, they're nice folks. I'm actually running the wheels/coilovers from the '04 setup on my RS since they've upgraded to the ohlins.

I don't know if it will make a significant difference by not riding the limiter, but mathematically it will make a difference. But, add up enough of those "won't make a big difference" mods, and sooner or later you will have a significantly faster car. . .
Oh I certainly think it makes a difference. It's very easy to see in the numbers on a road course, but autocross varies so much and there isn't nearly as much time at full throttle. On our FSAE car I pick up 2 seconds off a 50 sec course if i set the rev limiter at 13k vs. 11k.

According to the 2006 rules:

"Drivetrain and related components (induction, ignition, fuel
systems, etc.) are unrestricted except for the following limita-
tions: "

If the anti-lag system used some kind of electrical motor, people would probably object. Otherwise I don't see anything in the rules that would prohibit it.

Yes, absolutely. Has already been used on several cars, but I don't think any of them made it to Nationals this year. I had planned on messing with it last year, but never got around to it.

There are Evos around the country in SM using anti-lag to maintain spool during autocrosses? I'd be interested in hearing more about that, although I don't think I'll ever mess with it so as not to kill my turbo.

i think on short autox runs anti lag may not do much damage. however getting a good system setup with the proper EMS etc... is very expensive

What I ran in 2005 was basically a Street Prepared car with camshafts, and drilled brake rotors. Updates for this year are: Relocation of ball joints front and rear are being done now, along with bump steer correction. I will be running 18x10 front, and 18x9.5 rear with 285/30/18 tires. Also will be running race seats for the weight savings, but unwilling to give up the A/c for the long drive out to Topeka. As for aero, not entirely sure there, but will have a splitter and wing. I think there is a huge amount to be gained with center diff control, and plan on upgrading that also. As for power, I only make about 375 to the wheels, and am not sure if more than that is really neccessary for autocross. That will be decided after I run a few events on the new suspension and center diff setup. Oh, and Hoosier A6 for tire choice.

Hats off to a man willing to drive to the event.

EVOlutionary, mentioned the use of tires wider than 285. I wonder if anyone tried and monitored tire temperatures . Bigger might seem appealing but I think you might have a hard time getting and keeping heat in the rear tires. I think that for the rear at least 285 wide tires on 18" rims might be the optimum size. The front is another strory, maybe a staggered set up with wider front 295-305 would be worth experimenting with. I know Daddio tried a staggered set up in the past but switched bak to conventional set up after running into some issues with the differential overadjusting for it. Mark please let us hear your input on this. Another subject I want to hear you guys opinion is the sway bar situation that seems very controversial as mentioned by EVOlutionary. I have beeing succesfull compromising between running stock rear bar and an aftermarket one by drilling holes in the stocker to make it adjustable and stiffer on demand. However, I have found that using the stiffer holes always made the car feel more neutral.

Well last season was my first taste of autox and I am hooked, I went from a full out drag racer to an autoxer, my car makes high 300whp, will be running 285s with 18x9.5 on stock sway bars, only thing I can't decide on is what suspension to go with, hopefully I can make a trip to the nationals but who knows...

You bring up a couple very good points. Tire temps had always been a concern, and that is why some people stayed away from the 285's thinking they could not get the rear hot enough. But with the new track and the cool temps in late September, you can't get heat no matter what you run. Even 2 driver cars said that they couldn't get any heat in the rears.

So, you can either have cold 285's or cold 315's - take your pick. Some folks noticed that in some of the Prepared classes, guys who were running narrower DOT R comps were faster than alot of the guys on race slicks because the slicks would never get up to temp. I don't know for sure what the optimal setup will be for next year, but I really think going wider is worth consideration. . .

As for the sway bar issue - I ran the stock bar all last year. This year I'm going to try a stiffer front bar, and then use the adjustable rear to set it up for power oversteer in the sweepers.

A stiffer front bar is something I have considered for a long time, but it was against common wisdom to go that route. How big or Ishould say how stiffer are you going with EVOlutionary?

Don't know yet. Group N cars run a 29mm bar for tarmac - that is the upper limit of what I've seen. But, they are about $1000. Whiteline has a solid 26mm bar that weighs about 13#. Tanabe has a 25.4mm hollow bar that weighs about 7-8#.

I've read quite a bit of info on the WL bar as far as theory and R&D, but haven't really been able to find anything on the Tanabe. Also, I have not found any way to compare the "stiffness" of these two units. I did read something, but can't remember where, that said a properly designed hollow bar will be stiffer than a solid bar of the same diameter. I don't know if this is true or not.

If anyone has any more to add I would like to hear your thoughts.
