5 point harness with stock seats?
Im looking for some help with scca time trials setup. Im preping the car to do hillclimbs. Is there anyone useing the stock recaro seats for this? If so how are you setting up the 5 or 6 point harness? Mostly the sub-marine strap. are you cutting a hole to bring it up thru the seat or are you just bringing it over the front of the seat? If alittle confused as to how this needs to be.

That answered his question how?
Anyways. I would suggest either using a 4 point with the stock seat or change the seat witha 5 point. You could attempt to cut a hole but ultimately you'd be better off replacing it. You cant go over the front of the seat b/c it will not be at the correct angle.

It's been discussed here before.

I'm going the same route although I'm considering adding a bar underneath the seat to support the 5th pt some more. But I have to talk to a local guy that's in the know-how if this would be beneficial.

thanks for the replies. And yes you have to have a roll bar in order to compete. So thats already in the plan. so looks like a new seat is in order. boy and i thought i was going to get into racing kinda cheap. LOL. And i need at least a 5 point, and i'll prolly go 6

teamtech makes an excellent harness (it qualifies for NASA spec miata as a 6 point) that does not require a sub hole in the seat. It is their jet pilot harness. It truly is a unique and clever design.
They are roughly $415 each and are top notch in quality. Yes they are pricey but much cheaper than buying new seats and harnesses.

They also have the added bonus of having padding sewn in everywhere. Absolutely the most comfortable harness on the market.
I have these on my stock seat and I think they are great. There is no need to drill holes, add reinforcement plates or support brackets.
