How exactly do you want me to verify it? I talked to my agent last year before HPDE'ing my DSM. My friend did the same... just called.

Which HPDE is neither, in definition.

Oh, and I pay less than $500/ 6 months on my tracking DSM (it's stored in the winter anyway).

I am not sure how things work in NY, but if they try and raise your rates $300+ because of HPDE, I would go somewhere else.

I don't believe any "regular" insurance company covers racing/HPDEs/auto-x of any sort. Like they are trying to skip out of paying for damaged homes from Hurricane Katrina after post record profits, even after the courts rulings favoring those who lost everything ...

I've always driven with the thought in the back of my head, if you wreck your car on the track you are SOL ... ... I wonder if there is an insurance company that specifically covers motorsports for an affordable amount. This is an expensive "sport"

Yeah, I think the insurance companies are slowly catching on. That's why I want to eventually build a dedicated cheap track car, so if I wreck it, it won't break the bank. Hopefully resale values for evos keep going down..

Talon, If you read your policy there should be a section of coverage exclusions. Such as will not replace any audio equipment if stolen etc... etc...

Evojim, I am unsure what you asked the agent. There isn't a special policy specifically for HPDE. Policies are usually listed as liability thru full coverage/collision. When my friend called the agent he asked is his currentl full coverage policy would exclude coverage if he is not racing and using his car on a race track for a drivers education event. The GEico agent assured him that he will be covered.

The only way to really confirm if your insurance will exclude an HPDE is to read the entire policy word for word. That's what I did for my allstate insurance and discovered the exclusion.

Yeah, I have Geico and called to ask them specifically about track coverage. The operator I spoke with didn't really know what I was talking about but tried to assure me I was covered no matter what. I wouldn't believe what they say unless they give it to you in writing.

After. Within the last 3 months, and again 2 weeks ago.

EDIT: Just to be clear here, I am not covered for Time Trial events, only HPDE and auto-x.

There is now HPDE insurance available and its not that bad!

Chris Maume at Snellings Walters Motorsports Insurance
678.643.8415

is offering DE insurance on any car for 3% of the cars value. So your premium is 3% + tax.... with a $2,000 deductable.

If you do 20 track days per year... it would cost about $45 per event to insure your Evo if you wreck.

Not a bad option.

That is really cheap if that's for 12 mos. of coverage. I would have expected to pay 3% of coverage PER EVENT.

Looks like they also offer coverage for full racing.

Just had a nice conversation with Chris Maume. His company offers HPDE coverage for 1 calendar year for 3% of your car's declared value with a $1000 deductible for each $25,000 of declared value. Doesn't matter how many track days you do in that year. From 1 to 365, they are all covered for the same price. You must already have street insurance for your car. This is to weed out the dedicated race cars. Chris has a separate more expensive program for them. I'm strongly considering purchasing this insurance because of the peace of mind it would give me at the track.

Good find. This is what I was hoping would come out of this thread, alternatives to the "regular" insurance companies. I might have to give Chris a call ...
