This just reinforces why I have no desire to tune anything but a 4g63. It is just the most amazing engine made for its size by quite a margin. really raw that $100,000 viper with 8 cylinders runs the same speed as this $25,000 14yr old evo.
And man look at the underside of the car. There has to be another 5mph by just smoothing out the under chassis.
Good job Mike!

I got permission from Mike to post this here. Big thumbs up for thinking outside the box.
The car still has a bunch left in it(holy **** this thing is fast)!
At this race the mile shootout is only a small part of an open roadrace weekend so you are only allowed 3 passes each max. I only made 2 passes as I thought this was alittle too fast to be blasting down an extremley narrow (maybe 20 feet wide and no shoulder) road with a floating box otherwise known as my evo 2.
We made some changes to the engine which I didn't have time to fully dial in.As usual we got the car running and loaded it on the trailer about 8 hours after I had planned to leave. So i believe that there is alot left in this setup once it is fully dialed in.
Anyway back to the perf. part of the story, I ran the car the first time and it went 212.9 mph after a really bad drive by me , I missed 3 rd gear.I took it back to the pitts and went over the data log and noticed the boost was down to only about 35 lbs.(at home before I left it was at 41 lbs.)
Oh I forgot to tell you this was at about 2900 ft altitude it was about 85-90 degrees and very humid 70-80 percent.
So I adjusted the fuel map turned the boost up to 38-39 lbs. and made my next pass.
I again bogged the car terriblby due to fear of breaking the rear end that John had just busted his *** to get to me, and the shootout being next week.Well anyway I managed to keep the beast on the road and hit the gears and she ran 215.9 mph.
The old record was set by the SVS twin tubo vipper at 200.04 mph.
There was a baddass tube chassis roadrace viper(twinn turbo full on smallblock chevy) that almost got me on his last pass.He went 215.1 mph.
I think the next fastest car was an ex nascar with a full on winston cup motor that they usually don't sell to the public but this guy knows alot of people, anyway he was running 197 mph.
Here is a video from outside the car. This thing sounds like a beast.

yeah, and it's amazing what the evo did, but that viper is a great track car too, not just a drag car. That's a big deal, IMO.

Agreed 100% I always say this to people that dont know jack about mitsu and think they are little plastic cars that are crap. I work at Audi and see less dsm/evo's in the dealership, then i do other cars, but its 2 different breads, but some people are just ignorant when it comes to other cars being "better" platforms.

for every evo sold 30 audis are sold, so ehh on that...
but i know what you're saying to give you credit... the only downfall to the evo is tranny and tc... nothing else breaks...
