Autocross: Spare tire (stay or go)
What's consensus on autocrossing a Stock Evo VIII, should the space saver spare be removed to reduce weight, or is it of any worth for handling dynamics?

I have mine removed and the trunk is gutted. I like knowing that it is a bit lighter, but haven't noticed sheeeyot as far as different handling characteristics.

how many runs do you normally get at an event ? if you get more than 4 ( fun runs maybe ) , leave it in for the first 4 and then remove it for the rest . see if it actually changes your time or feels different . lighter weight is not always the answer . my friend raced a 911 years ago and lost a national championship because he didn't run a full tank of gas . he thought the weight savings was key , not realizing how much the handling would change . of course a 911 is an extreme example , but testing is key . the biggest advantage to removing it is that it will allow you to have a little more gas in the tank to protect against fuel starvation during extreme cornering .

weight loss is very important , I wasn't questioning anyone's experience . I agree , lose the tire . for a lot of us recreational auto-x'ers we may not go any faster with the tire out . My skill level has a long ways to go to notice a lot of things , but I still have a blast trying .
