light track days? Stock Rim- 255/45 or 245/45 tire?

For street and light track days. is there any advantage to going up to 245's or even 255's on the stock rim.

I hear that the 245's and 255's are too tall and may effect the balnce of the car.

TIA

The first number is the width, not the height. Going with a 255 vs. the stock 235, will give you more grip. As for the side wall, go with a 40 or a 45.

I know the first number is the width, but I hear 255/45 or even 40 is too tall (too much side wall) and the tire may roll of the rim around hard cornering

255/40/17 fits fine on stock 17 x 8 wheels. I have been running them for years on the track with no problems. 45s won't fit.

I'm not sure but If you go less than a 40 height your wheels might be grinding the pavement on hard cornering. I was taking REAL hard turns on the stock Advans which are 235/45/17 w/ no problems at all. They lasted me 12K miles, now I run the Falken RT-615 255/40/17.

Yup. A 235/45/17 fits fine but a 255/45/17 will not. 255/40/17

when you increase width you have to lower the hight. so I dont' think you will be able to fit 45x255 tire, even if you do, you will have rubbing problems. Go with 255x40x17

255/45 is too tall. 255/40 is close to 235/45 in height and is what you should go with. The math is really quite simple to calculate tire diameter, you can look up the equation on tirerack.com or google.

I would get a set of 235/45/17 Toyo RA1s. They have the crisp feel of the advan but also provide additional grip. That being said, sometimes 255/40/17 are cheaper. If so I would get the wider tire. It will loosen up that crisp feel you are used to but will provide more grip in the corners. Personally I like the sharp turn in and response of the narrower tire.
