Hoosier CARNAGE!

The Porsche Club ran the road course portion of our local site & I guess the Hoosiers were on their very last leg--my 1st run was fastest & by the 5th I'd slowed 2.7 secs off my 1st run
Not many runs, only 30-40 (I think). I guess running pressure too low (32-30) kills them--fast (!)

I have a set of 710s in the garage w/ abt the same # of runs that look great & are still soft on the durometer, so I'll be re-mounting them.
My feeling is that the Hoosiers have GRIIIIP! but the Kuhmos allow a bit more slip angle and are more fun to drive on, IMO...

Sorry for the blurry pics--the steel belts are shredded, the rubber ripped off like a skinned baseball & they're worse in person:

looks like you need to check your tires more frequently.

Blowing a tire out isnt fun, and isnt worth running on ANY cords.

I did the same thing. Corded them in 16 AX runs in one day. Expensive frickin' weekend. And I started out with 45psi and went up. Either don't buy Hoosiers for an Evo, or expect to buy new ones every weekend.

BTW, its not my driving because I've gone a whole year on one set of Kumhos.

Yeah, evidently between every run w/ Hoosiers once you pass around 30 or so...

you should honestly check them every run.

Every time i come off the track, you check your tires. Full tread, nearly gone, doesn't matter. Could have picked up debris, a nail or anything in a tire.

Good safety habit

Did you have sparks flying off your tires from the steel belt? I've actually seen that before... pretty odd, until you realize what's going on.

Hoosier had a big display @ the PRI show this weekend. I spoke to Rodney w/ them to discuss the very abbreviated tire life. It may have to do w/ the lower pressures I prefer, but he did tell me the A6s aren't as sensitive to pressure as past iterations of the tire. My car has 3 degrees of front camber, so hopefully that isn't the issue. I also rotate from back to front between events.

I'm going to e-mail him some pics to see where that leads...

32-30 does seem a little low. At the very least we can hope for some honest feedback from Hoosier as to what the issue is.

With that said, go back to the Kumhos and enjoy.

Hoosier Tire Web Site

The Hoosier web site has very good instructions for the care and feeding of the A6 & R6 including tire pressure recommendations, https://www.hoosiertire.com/rrtire.htm. I run 40 to 43 psi front and 35 to 38 psi rear on my A6's for autocross. I have had accelerated wear with no discernible time benefit to using lower pressures. I also have been flipping the tires at 20 to 25 runs to even out the wear. Grip falls away after about 40 runs but for local events they are just fine.

I run either 18x10 or 18x10.5 wheels on the front and 18x 10 or 18x9.5 on the rear. I have found that the wider wheels help reduce wear on the tires edge. I also run about -3 degrees on the front.

Since our cars are still basically FWD converted to AWD, they retain many of the characteristics of their FWD heritage including 60% plus of there weight on the front end.

Hoosier's response--FYI:

My first thoughts are too little pressure
and
maybe some weight transfer issues. Especially front tires are prone to
having too much weight transfer onto the outside shoulder during
cornering
resulting in excess wear. More frequent rotation and possible flipping
of
tires on the rims may help as well. If I think of more possible issues
I'll
let you know.
