i read a few articles of people getting glass in their eyes during crashes...I'd opt for the closed face; but then again, I also read of a few people whose shields flipped up and they still got glass in their eyes.

I personally have a Bell M3 and like it a lot. It does get rather hot, but I'm not usually in the car more than 30 minutes during my HPDEs.

How about a little of each?:

The Bell S2R. Best helmet I've ever owned. I highly recommend it.

Thats the reason he said a little of each. It is a full face helmet with an open face visor.

I believe Snell M helmets are technically multiple impact, since they do a double impact. It is one of the reasons they have been criticized as a motorcycle helmet rating, because it is rare that you get multiple pointy impacts in the same spot on a bike. Many DOT only helmets do horrible on multiple pointy impacts, but do better on one big impact. There was an article in I believe BIKE magazine where they used one of the anvil sleds or whatever it is called and tested motorcycle helmets that was pretty interesting, but I do not have the link handy.

If you are in a car, get a car helmet (SA). And remember, helmet EPS (or whatever it is called) linings are only good for a few years, then you should either have it inspected by the manufacturer or just toss it and get a new one. So also make sure you get a fresh one, not old stock. Oh and, throw it away if you crash and hit your head, even if it looks like it is ok. The lining and shell can be ruined without any visible damage.
