Video link doesn't work anymore... but thanks for posting. I remember it. Unfortunately.
My boys, who are 8 and 7, jumped up and screamed NO!!!! because THEY remembered it to.
I feel really bad for ACP but I cannot understand why he didn't go for it. It was obvious from the approach he wasn't accelerating fast enough and wasn't going to make it.
I wonder if there was a problem or something. It just doesn't seem like him to shy away from something like that... and after LAST year, he KNOWS the speed was to slow. Yet this year, he was SHORTER than last.
Something HAD to be wrong... I just wonder what.
Anyway, here's being grateful that a Mitsubishi was represented at the Games and wishing the best for ACPs speedy recovery, both physically and mentally.

He prob got a LOT more airtime by flipping it than placing, being that he isn't dave mirra or travis pastrana, maybe a marketing ploy?

I was there for this event for the first time. It was a fun event. The food was expensive, but the beer surprisingly tasted good. Unfortunately, the only Evo that was there flipped. When i saw the Evo flip it did seem like they were going a bit slow. It sucked, but it was entertaining. Amazing how he landed back on all 4 tires after flipping. Good thing nothing happened to them!

If anyone had seen the practice from X games 13 they would understand why he is cautious of the jump.
Last year in practice he landed 1/2 way down the jump and almost rolled it - the acar was in really bad shape (front end damage)... it was very similar to how Ramana rolled his car in the same practice session.
So - last yeat the first round of qualifying he landed the jump perfect, I mean 100% perfect... the next round that was on TV... not so perfect!
Fast forward to this year.
He did not practice the jump mainly because he did not want to ruin the nice NOS wrap on the car in case he landed long again, and I am very sure he did not want to spend three days before X rebuilding the car.
So - there was about a 2 MPH window he had to hit, go over this and you land on the front end and the car flips violently - go under and you case the jump and the car rolls over as it did this year.
There was nothing "wrong" with the way he drove, or the preperation of the car - it simply means Mitsubishi's cannot fly well, to damn front heavy (Last year X games 13 we had 200 lbs of balast in the trunk)....
Hope this helps,

There's a thread over on SpecialStage about the jumps. Some have theorized that it has to do with the suspension design of the rear end of the Evo, and now the new body style WRXs as well. Another theory flying around has to do with rear end aero. The old GC and GD bodied imprezas fly pretty well, if they've got the big rear wing.
Here's to you guys getting it all back together and taking it to the subies out on the real stages!

That crash had absolutely nothing to do with aero, weight balance, or the EVO's ability to jump. His trajectory and angle of approach for landing were perfect, he was just going too slow. Although some cars end up nosing the landing this was not the case of this crash. More speed would have made a text book landing, everything else looked good.
Internet ideas aside, anyone who knows how to jump a bike or a motorcycle knows that the trajectory is based off the weight transfer that occurs at the lip of the jump, and how the wheels spin in the air. Cars that nose dive into the ground lifted on the throttle at the lip, hit the brakes in the air, or drastically lifted the throttle in the air.
It's too bad because he looked fast. When you come up short on a bike or a motorcycle you try again until you dial the speed, and if you crash the result isn't too bad. But coming up short in a car flying through the air is expensive.
