Pocono Double Nationals SCCA

Went up to Pocono for the Double National this past weekend to decide the NE Region T2 championship. Going in I was 2 points behind Bill Zeigler (2nd at the runoffs) in his Pontiac GXP. Bill was at the race along with some very fast F bodys as well as an M3, another GXP and a Lotus. Quals went as hoped and I was on pole for both races setting the qual record for the second race. Race one; I got a great start and got in front of several of the T1 vettes giving me a nice buffer to get out on the field. I had built up a nice lead when a vette smacked Bill Z up against the nascar wall coming out of the bus stop ending his day and causing a full course yellow for a couple laps. This allowed the rest of the field to close the gap on me so I just had to make sure I got a great jump on the restart which I was able to do and get the win. Second race Bill Z wasnt able to run despite his team pulling an all nighter and getting his car back in race shape due to sore ribs. The start to race 2 wasnt quite as good as the first race as I got pinned behind some of the slower vettes going into turn 1. I eventually cleared them and got out to a comfortable lead after a few laps and cruised from there. So 2 poles and 2 wins, cant ask for much more than that For the season the AMS/VIP/TRE Sponsored Evo #34 finished with 5 wins and 1 3rd out of 6 races and took home the NE Region T2 National points championship. Runoffs are next up in Topeka.

Marty
