Redline Time Attack, New Jersey Motorsports Park, Sept. 13-14
This is the official thread to discuss the New Jersey event, the weekend of September 13th-14th. We were contacted by the host of the event to sanction and run the TA portion of this event weekend. The event is open to all makes and models of vehicles, but we will ONLY be holding the competition for Street and Modified Class cars. No Unlimited Cars will be competing. This is a GREAT chance to get out on the brand new Thunderbolt track, as part of a big weekend of motorsports (Formula Atlantics, Formula Mazdas, Spec Miatas, Time Attack) AND get to run for some money!
Here's the deal:
Street and Modified Classes only.
$1500 to the winner of each Modified Class Division (FWD, AWD, RWD)
$1000 to the winner of each Street Class Division (FWD, AWD, RWD)
Entry fee of $400 for the weekend.
2 practice sessions per Class each day. One round of Time Attack each day of the event. Single best time from either of the TA sessions counts toward the competition. Just like how we did it at GTLive last year and this year.
Course to be run: 2.25 mile Thunderbolt Course
Facility Location:
8000 Dividing Creek Road
Millville, NJ 08332
Directions:
Dividing Creek Rd, Millville, NJ 08332, USA - Google Maps
Track Website:
Welcome to New Jersey Motorsports Park
Spread the word to everyone you know! This is the first time this sort of prize money has been awarded to Street and Modified Class time attack competitors.
If you don't have a copy of our rule book, here ya go:

More info:
The $13K Lap Dance
Record $13,000 in purse and contingency up for grabs in X Attack Time Attack
- Sanctioned by Redline Time Attack
- $13,000 purse/contingency largest ever
- Modified and Street categories
- FWD, RWD, and AWD classes
- Atlantic Championship and Star Mazda races
Millville, NJ – Run the quickest lap time and win up to $2,500. That is the simple challenge that competitors in the X Attack time attack will be charged with this Sept 13-14 at the Formula X event hosted by the all-new, world-class New Jersey Motorsports Park.
In total, over $13,000 has been offered to date for competitors – spread between two categories (Modified and Street per Redline Time Attack rules and regulations), with three classifications each (AWD, RWD, FWD).
Each Modified class (AWD, RWD, FWD) winner will take home a $1,500 category payout. Mazda then ups the ante with an additional $1,000 check for Mazda-based competitors who win their class. With limited spaces, two days of track time, and only a $400 registration fee – the competitor list is expected to fill very quickly.
The Street Category field is expected to be filled even faster. With a $250 registration fee, Street category competitors will have a shot at winning a $1,000 prize per class (AWD, RWD, FWD). Mazda sponsorship again bumps the potential haul to $2,000 per class winner should the winner be a Mazda-based competitor.
Besides a limited amount of entries, the other thing standing in the way to a big payout for competitors is NJMP’s challenging 14-turn, 2.25 mile Thunderbolt course - it’s a mint, newly paved track that is already being called the “monster of the northeast”.
In addition, spectators and participants will also be treated to front seat racing by the top national drivers in both the Atlantic Championship and Star Mazda Championship race series – two of the nation’s premier open wheel development series. Atlantic Championship race cars are considered the last step for developing racers before moving onto an Indy Car or even Formula One ride. The state-of-the-art carbon chassis Atlantics feature 2.3 L Mazda-Cosworth four-cylinder engines cranking out 300 naturally-aspirated horsepower. As another member of Mazda’s unparalleled Motorsports development ladder, the Star Mazda Championship also features Mazda motivation in their carbon chassis open wheel racers – in fact, the same 240 hp Renesis rotary engine found in the Mazda RX-8 sports car.
As well, a Formula X import and domestic car show will offer over four-dozen trophies up for grabs, as well as cash prizes totaling $3,000. NCCA points accreditation and sanctioning will mean that NCCA competitors will be able to score points toward year-end NCCA championships.
Located just 45 miles from Philadelphia, 45 miles from Atlantic City, NJ, and 161 miles from Washington, D.C., New Jersey Motorsports Park is the long awaited world class racing facility the northeast has been looking for. NJMP is comprised of two separate race courses, a go kart track, a Motorsports country club, and even trackside Motorsports villas. After a busy year in construction, NJMP officially opened in July of this year.
Spectator tickets for the event are already on sale at njmp.com with three-day passes at $25 and single day admission at $15. Kids under 12 are admitted for free. Purchase spectator admissions at www.njmp.com
Sunday only car show tickets will be available for $40 online as well as $45 at the gate on the day of the event. Register for Car Show at www.urbanracer.com/formulax
Due to limited space, Time Attack participants are asked to pre-register online as well. The X Attack Time Attack registration fee is $400 for Modified Categories and $250 for Street Categories. Register for Time Attack competition at www.urbanracer.com/formulax

Just got back from watching Grand Am race at NJ Thunderbolt racetrack over the weekend. Several drivers and team members I have spoken with all commented how much they enjoyed the track layout. It's not a flat featureless track. The last corner leading to a long straight (start/finish line) is a flat out corner where the Grand Am cars were traveling at 140+ mph. I cannot wait till I get to see some of these time attack cars at this track.
Btw, the facility is only about 70% done. They did not have a chance to put all the grass down and the either side of the track still is dirt covered. A minor off track excursion would kick some serious dust clouds.
Few pics from the event

On urbanracer.com/formulax it says "A minimum of three eligible competitors must be registered for full payout of each class. 50% of payout will be issued to winner if there is a minimum of two competitors for the class."
I was also at Thunderbolt last weekend. Awesome setup
