Looking for opinions on the best street tire (140+ UG Treadwear) to use on the track. For example, in TA competitions to qualify for street class. Post up your opinion and suggested sizes. Thanks!

Keep in mind this tire would occasionally be run in wet/rainy conditions as well.

I'm looking to pick up a new set of street tires to also use on the track in street competitions and under wet/rainy conditions.

I personally LOVE the Neova's for street class. Great grip when fresh. Only downside I see is they kinda loose their luster after a few events.

I would like to add Nitto will be coming out with a GREAT street tire soon, that's what I plan to run next year if I run any events in Street class.

Damn good thread. I have run the RE-01Rs in autocross here and loved them, but I haven't really run anything else to compare them too. From what I have read the Advans seem to be a little bit better.

Thanks for the input - what size do you suggest? I think you run a 255/40/17?

 

With Redline, AWD is limited to 255. I ran a 255/40/18.

 

For combined track/street use I'll have to lean toward the Dunlop Z1's. So many people have had great luck with those on the track it's hard not to use. Only reason I recommend that over the B-Stone is your mention of track. If it was solely street I'd say the BS, but combined roles are best played by the Dunlop. Even in our wet testing the Z1 came out on top.

 

I have been looking into all three of these using admittedly mostly tirerack and EvoM. The Z1s seem to perform marginally better then the other two top tires (RE-01R and Neova) but cost less for a 255. I hope Im not wrong on that just throwing in my two cents. Ill be getting the Z1 SS come spring time (of course assuming there are no new players to the market)

 

What about the Dunlop star specs, which are basically #1 for AutoX?

at the last track day I was not happy with the REO1s granted they are almost dead but they where getting greasy and were somewhat vague feeling from the get go.

 

The Dunlops seem to do a better job of not retaining heat as much as the Yoks or Bridgestones. The Bridgestones seem to lose grip fast when heat gets into them. The Yoks are the best feeling tire to drive of the three however for a track day purpose I think you will have better luck on the Dunlops. They will not fade near as bad when they get hot and they are cheaper. You also are not as concerned about precision(ie. autox) on a track day event and they will do a superb job doing what you need there. Track Days/Everyday Dunlop hands down. We ended up going to Solo Nationals with literally three sets of mounted and balanced tires. If it was a one driver car colder day...etc. I would have been on the Yoks for sure.

 

I have Michelin PS'2 on my car and I really like them. In the wet they have tons of grip just like in the dry. The only thing that you may not like is the softer sidewall if you plan on tracking them. For street driving they're awesome, tons of grip and a nice ride.

I've tried most everything out there, the Z1s seem to be at the top of the game right now, good tire!

 

Z1 star spec is the new kid on the block untill something else comes out.

 

Great thread.... I like RE01-R so far, I agree that they do get greasy when over heated, but I able to control that with different psi settings
