I had my first points event yesterday as well. I could have won PAX by almost a half a second, but the T&S system was still running the '08 indexes. I think I was actually 2nd, maybe 3rd in PAX overall out of 85 drivers using the '09 numbers. It doesn't bother me at all - I was the one who pointed out that the indexes were wrong.

I'm really happy with the Ohlins and Bridgestones, though. First impressions - Bridgestones are sticky but need lots of pressure to work right (I was at 42F/45R hot) and 9kF/11kR springs are not stiff enough, IMO.

Wow, that's a lot of pressure! I came across a post donour made last year the other night when researching pressure saying he liked 32/36 in the RE-01Rs so I tried that for the day. I did well with it but did consider bumping up a few psi to where I normally run in the 36/39 area but decided to leave well enough alone. The white STI I was battling as on RE-11s but I didn't inquire about his psi.

It's not exactly and apples to apples comparison because I was running very different springrates in 2007.

However, I am running about 10 psi higher on the RE-11s than I was on the RE01Rs. No kidding.

Good point. I suppose with my 'soft' 8k/10k springs I should bump up a few psi like I usually do. I wanted to experiment a bit, though. Curse these learning processes and infinitely different setups!

Yeah, the car didn't feel quite as loose or as responsive as I would have liked it to be. Whiteline rear bar is on full stiff, as well. Something like 600lb F / 750lb R would probably be better, although if I didn't care about street manners at all I would go much stiffer. Anyone know what the DFVs can handle with factory valving?

And... wee!

Yeah and we haven't even talked about ABS vs. non-ABS setup yet...

Spool sample, are you running a front bar? I'm currently running stock front and rear bars.

Front bar is stock w/ donour's endlinks.

Same boat:



Ohlins DFVs: 8k front/10k rear

-3F/-1.5R, 0 toe all around

Stock sways. Nothing else going on besides the DFVs. RE-01Rs.

The factory valving on the DFVs can easily handle a +/- 2K spring difference and +/- 3K at most. This data was gotten speaking with an Ohlins engineer, which gives the following:

Front: 7k - 13k springs
Rear: 5k - 11k springs

If running in the +/- 3k range you will be at the limits of the adjusters ....

running our EVO X yesterday, on a clean concrete lot

Stretching a narrower tire on a wider rim tends to work well for autocross use. Great feel/responsiveness and you can make a sloppier tire feel less so. We have been running 265/35/18 AD07s on an 18x10.5" wheels for autocross use (until we can get 245/40/18s in AD08 - if they EVER come out!) and we're using a good bit less tire pressure than what we used to run with other, similar tires. We tried high 30's then mid 30s and the tires just wouldn't roll over anywhere near the edge of the tread surface. We dropped into the 30-32 psi range and its way better. The Dunlop SS is not as stiff of a tire carcass as the Yokohama, of course, but as long as you run a bit less than normal and keep an eye on the shoulder of the tread (drop pressures so that you're using all of the tread surface) it should work.

edit - on spring rates and bars: That picture above is our latest AST 5200 setup running 700#/in front, 800#/in rear springs and COBB bars front and rear. (12K F/14K R)


Goofygrin's EVO X GSR at the same event.

Its only got a little more lean. Differences: stiffer 14K vs 12K front spring rates, different shocks, but an OEM front bar and 285 Hoosiers

guys I'm probably gonna get some **** for asking these basic question, but here goes. I plan on prepping the car to be reasonably competitive in STU this year. That means I'm going for the best value for money mods first, and not breaking the bank to get that last 5bhp.

Thanks to a friend I picked up a used set of Ohlins for a very good price Spring rates are 750/550. I have a Whiteline FSB I installed for AS last year. Removing that will cost too much so I'm gonna leave it there deal with it.

Now it's time to get a reflash, and I'd like to improve the airflow at least a little first. Are the downpipe and catback the obvious things to change? Remember, I'm looking for decent gains on a decent budget.

I also have a friend offering me his old Helix catback exhaust for almost nothing. Anyone have comments on the performance of that?
