For immediate release

Mitsubishi Rally Support Program gains traction after successful 2008 season
Increased support for top privateers Andrew Comrie-Picard and Antoine L’Estage in the works

MISSISSAUGA, Ont. (January 15, 2009) – Top privateers Andrew Comrie-Picard and Antoine L’Estage will both enjoy limited direct Mitsubishi support for their respective rally teams as part of the 2009 Mitsubishi National Rally Support Program, Mitsubishi Motor Sales of Canada Inc. has announced.

Andrew Comrie-Picard, head of ACP Rally, and co-driver Marc Goldfarb, both veteran Mitsubishi competitors, will receive increased funding for 2009 as they replace their Mitsubishi Evolution IX and begin their rally development of the all-new Mitsubishi Evolution GSR, all in preparation for a serious run at the 2009 Canadian Rally Championship. Andrew Comrie-Picard, or ACP as he is often called, is well known to Canadian rally fans and recently scored a first overall in the modern class of the 2008 Targa Newfoundland, an international tarmac rally. This Targa Newfoundland victory was achieved in an Evolution GSR, the first time a current spec Evolution has competed in a sanctioned North American rally. Andrew’s co-driver for the exceedingly competitive Targa Newfoundland was Jen Horsey, a highly respected competitor who also competes in the Canadian Rally Championship at the wheel of a Mitsubishi Lancer, as the driver of the only all-girl crew in the national series.

Antoine L’Estage and his co-driver Nathalie Richard are new additions to the Mitsubishi competitive lineup for 2009 and will campaign a brand new 2009 Lancer Evolution RS. L’Estage and Richard are also very well known to rally fans, having won the 2008 North American Rally Championship as well as placing second in the 2008 Canadian Rally Championship. The 2009 Evolution RS they will drive is a totally new trim level for 2009 and is equipped at the factory to be suitable for race preparation. Evolution RS models achieve a lower curb weight than the mechanically identical Evolution GSR simply by deleting non essential features such as air conditioning, the sound system, sound deadening and the rear spoiler.

The Evolution GSR and the Evolution RS to be campaigned by Andrew Comrie-Picard and Antoine L’Estage will be the only current spec Mitsubishi Evolution X rally cars entered in the 2009 Canadian Rally Championship.

The Mitsubishi National Rally Support Program, now in its second year, is a multi-tiered contingency program that encourages amateur participation in organized rallysport – and directly benefits competitors, volunteers, promoters, organizers and fans of the Canadian Rally Championship (CRC). Look for exciting new enhancements to the 2009 program to be announced before the Canadian Rally Championship begins.

........so I wonder if this means Mitsu. Canada will be selling an RS version of the X?
