sumitomo htrz III vs federal 595 autox + dd

I'm getting ready to purchase new tires for summer and the autox season. I know both of these tires arnt great but they are cheaper for the size I am running 255/35/18. Does anyone have any experience with either tire and how did they hold up while autoxing. I'm not fast enough yet to invest in slicks or a nice set of direzzas. Thanks again for the help

I don't know how much you autocross, but if you're remotely serious about it, trust me and save up for the Direzzas. You've spent a lot of money on your car based on your signature. Don't skimp a few hundred bucks when it comes to the most important part. I ran HTR Z-IIs this past season and they were absolute garbage. It was my first season and it was what I put on before I got into autoX, but they screamed like banshees and just did not grip. I'm buying a set of Star Specs for this season as they obviously more than passed the test last year and are a great bargain at that price $160/ea.

I autocrossed on my HTR-Z-III's. Once. Then the Evo went back into retirement. The Generals are even worse.

Don't lump Star Specs in with slicks as far as what you should and shouldn't run at this point in the game. A good set of tires will make a huge difference. Jumping to slicks before you're ready just to improve your times is not a good idea, and I'm glad you realize this.

I still say get the Star Specs compared to the other 2 tires you're looking at.
