Dome light mount as a camera mount?

Dome light mount as a camera mount?
I was trying to find a new camera mount last night (since the vids on the windshield don't show my hands and in the back of the car it's a) a pain and b) too far away.
I popped the dome light out (plastic cover and two screws). I fab'ed up a quick plastic prototype and it actually looks like a decent place to mount one if you don't have a harness bar except that the rear view is a bit in the way.
Is anyone else running a camera from their dome light?
I should have grabbed a picture. You basically need a 1" x 3.5" piece of metal with three holes drilled in it for a stable mount + the head off a mini tripod ($7 at Target).
