You can all guess who won this one. Lots of bad luck for the Ford works team in this one including Hirvonen out after Day 2 due to overheating issues. Too bad since he was only 6.1 secs behind the leader. Jari-Matti Latvala had some tire and mechanical/cooling problems as well and even lost his hood (bonnet) on day 2.
Petter Solberg was in 4th after day 2 and had to retired on the final day after losing fuel pressure. To make matters worse Team Manager Ken Rees’ briefcase was stolen containing "all [of] the team documentation, plans, laptop, money, and passport." Major suckage. Anyways, here are some pics from this one. More photos and full detail here!

Sorry to say that it's beginning to die off overseas too... at least with the manufacturers that drive the sport.
Note that the pics only have Citroen and Ford? 'Cause they're all that's left of any manufacturer's efforts in WRC.
Next year, with the NA 2000 cars... Who knows? Maybe that will be the final nail in the coffin.
God, I hope not.
As for the US, there actually IS alot of Rallying that goes on here. Between Rally America and NASA Rally Sport, there are events every month or even every few weeks. Just gotta go find them.
Our issue here is the roads... we can't FIND any to use. Environmental 'concerns' and public officials falling victim to a minority of whiners that cry politics louder than anyone else as well as the massive "sue to get rich" public mentality compounded by the ambulance chasers and the resulting massive lawsuits for what boils down to a stupid fan doing stupid stuff.
You get the politics and the Lawyers under control and Rally will flourish. Until then, we'll keep struggling along.
Here's hoping for the future.
