PDA HPDE Crash

Why would they stage cars like this? That's the dumbest thing I've seen in a long time!

I have no idea why that organization grid up the cars in that location. They might as well have the drivers grid up at the first corner at the end of the front straight. And as for the drivers who got out of their car, you can note that towards lack of experience. Never get out of your car, and never take off your seat belt. Unless of course if your car is on fire.

I'd like to see the report on that one. I wonder if the other car got in the rear end of the Evo, spinning him out. That would almost explain why you only see the Evo in the crash and not the other car. Unless the other car was parked in front of the Infinity.

I know that course pretty well...that is the strangest place for a car to go off. Something must have happened with the Evo to cause him to snap off the track. And everybody stages there on that access road..maby not that close to the track entrance. It sure looked like a big suprise..and not a nice one either. Pete

No, the guy in the Evo was driving like a pure idiot and just lost it. He had a friend that was following in another car and that guy completley ignored what his instructor was telling him to do; i.e. don't stop on the side of the track so you can video tape your idiot friend and then get rear ended.

Both guys had almost been kicked out of a previous track day just before IIRC.

I see the dirt puff where he dropped the LF wheel off track..thats like a 2" drop from the pavement..I will bet he snapped the car into a slide when he tried to get back on track. The super lucky guy is the driver suited one..if he haden't heard the sliding Evo coming he wouldn't have looked..he probably got smacked by the car anyway as he got a late start..but if he had kept talking and didn't move..dead Pete

Wow....just.......I mean....really? I don't think i've seen a better example of lucky, stupid, and just plain dumb. I hope to hell that the track owners take a lesson from that and put a wall up....

Um, I would not stager there if they told me to - open area, no wall, bad idea.

WTF. Whoever organized that should maybe look elsewhere for work. Nobody should care why that dude crashed. It happens to everyone and it is up to A) the track, then B) the organizers to make sure off-track spectators are safe and of course drivers are safe. Anybody who has ever witnessed an HPDE, a race, or even spent enough time on the highway knows that cars spin INWARDS. Thus walls are put up on the INSIDE of corners and why nobody stands or stages there.

A similar incident happened to Scott Pruet last year at NJMP in Rolex practice. His car spun to the inside and hit an unprotected end of the pit wall at 149mph. The DP car was split in half. There was a motor and some wheels on the track side of pit wall and the front half, with Scott hanging out the open end, came to rest feet from a working pit crew. The track was deemed unsafe for a speed contest and they shut it down over night.

I would NEVER let myself go near a track run like the one in the video, that is truly terrifying.

That guy in the suit that barely escaped with his life was extremely lucky he heard it coming. Isnt this gross negligence even with the signed waiver, can't the drivers all sue the track and the organizers?

Guys, make sure you sound off to the officials if you see any unsafe procedure, behavior, etc... when you do your HPDE or w/e.
