You have to remember that probably half or more of the failures for Mclaren/Mercedes in those early 2000's were engine failures, something Newey had no control over. Kimi came second in points in 2003 and 2005 so the cars were good enough to almost win the drivers champ...

My only real point is Newey designed Kimi's car in 2003 and 2005, the latter of which had terrible issues with reliability, but was ridiculously fast....which is oddly reminicent of what Vettel has been dealing with for a season + two races. I'm sure that it has a lot more to do with than the design, but I can't just write Vettel's troubles off to coincidence.

Good thought, but I think if that was the case, Bahrain and or Malaysia would be up there two but they are nowhere close, indicating that it has to do with the track layout and the racing that happens on them!

That makes sense. That's what I get for speculating.

Look at how many cars dnfed on the first race this year, if wasn't even close to the amount of this one. I think the time of season is a big part, but i think we would see it even if it were the last race of the year.

Might have something to due with the track being very inviting to passing.

I kind of feel sorry for vettel but hamilton & webber put on a good show minus webber spinning hamilton , yes it was a questionable decision to pit hams a second time but thats all he had to do was shut up and keep driving like he was driving and he could have at least got up to third but im glad it went the way it did minus hamiltons/webber spin because that puts me at #1 in the evom fantasy league lol , but i feel that the real battle will be between vettel & hamilton they appear to be the most reliably quick drivers . button got lucky, he was afarid of the sun come on jb really, how about a tinted visor just a suggestion. take your right full place mid pack and be happy you still make millions for being ok at what you do for a living.

Don't worry. You'll start scoring some solid points when Vettel starts winning races from start to finish later this year.

Hamilton aggressive driving is hard on tires. Wouldn't be surprised if Button will outshine him in the rest of the season.

It would also help if Kobayashi had a car that performed and doesn't fall apart all by itself...

I think if the FIA punished Renault for the wheel incident last year then they have to punish Sauber. And back to Red Bull, they seem to always have something weird going on with their cars. Remember at the start of the '08 season when the would barely come together with another car and their whole car would just fall apart and the other car would just drive away? I think Australia '08 when Coulthard got tangled up with Kimi or Massa and the Red Bull just looked like it disintegrated.

Same thing then happened in Malaysia didn't it? Is that when he went over a curb and both front wheels came off and the suspension completely buckled...? I remember the FIA looking into the construction of them then.

yep, that's exactly what happened. I'm not sure whats going on with them this year. I remember right before Bahrain they were cutting something off of the barge board(spelling?). You dont see last second fixes like that in F1, not like that anyway because they so aero sensitive. Lack of testing really put them in it. BTW, I was really glad for Kubica and Renault even though I think their sponsor name is a little funny (like one of those made up sponsor names on top gear like **** or tit lol). I do wonder how Flavio felt though, never liked that guy for some reason.

I, to, am frustrated with Kobay's performance or should I say lack thereof. That said, his lose of front wing may not have been his fault...it was very tight racing and just a slight bump on those front wings and they are gone...this type of incident will occur again and again this season especially at the start with the increased number of cars on the grid.

Also, contrary to earlier claims by Bridgestone, Sauber's car does not appear to have less tire wear than the other teams. De la Rosa said he was helpless in preventing Shumi and Algus (?) from passing in the final laps due to rear tire wear resulting in the lose of the last point.

I still think Kobay is a good driver and may have run into some bad luck or is struggling to get his bearings...perhaps, with time, he will get lucky and assume his form.

Later, Ken
