Thoughts on the Spanish Grand Prix

This was by far the most boring Grand Prix I've watched in awhile. The most entertaining part was watching Michael hold up traffice.

I did like the GP2 race prior to the F1 event.

The tyres did indeed look crap after this. But importantly, heavier.
They had a in car video from Webber on the last lap or two. They look pretty bad then.

Correction, the most boring races are yet to come. All the stupid "street circuits" with zero passing opportunity are the most boring races.

I think a mandatory minimum of 2 stops for tire changes would help shake things up a bit and make things a little more interesting.

I completely agree. I think the field is now close enough together that adding a second pitstop will definitely have an impact on the race - very similar to DTM, where a botched pitstop will usually cost you 2 - 10 spots on the grid.

I'd agree, except for Monaco. I'll never forget Montoya wrecking Schumacher in '04, or Raikkonen punting Sutil in '08, etc. Always seems to be something interesting happening in Monaco.

Yes and now with increase in the number of cars and some being considerably slower is going to increase the risks of some bump and run encounters. If it rains, things could get even worse.

No kidding. if the lead cars had trouble with the backmarkers getting in the way in Spain, just wait for this weekend. I predict at least 2-3 safety cars, with or without rain.

Exactly. I can envision quick cars coming out of the tunnel frequently in the latter half of the race with an "oh ****!!!!", because a backmarker is on the racing line and going really slow to prepare to go into the 1st left hander of the chicane.

As much as people complain about the "backmarkers", I kinda like having them there. They add an element of unknown that can cause some shifting in positions as drivers pass them. It keeps things interesting.

Go Lotus!

I agree as far as the cars that are at least somewhat close to the pace of the quicker cars like Force India and Toro Rosso, but the ridiculously slow cars like HRT and Virgin are seriously a danger to the lead cars when they spend the entire time either getting in the way and/or trying to get out of the way. Both of those teams would realistically be better off racing in a lower series and improving their car and team and then jumping up to the big boy series when they can prove to be competitive and NOT a danger to themselves and others.

if they allowed teams to test, i doubt they would be so far off the pace. additionally, we wouldn't have out of control drivers taking the seat for the first time, and take them 4-5 races before they are comfortable.

even though the lead teams would benefit from testing, the slower teams would benefit far greater and improve faster and wouldn't be 6-10 seconds a lap off the pace.

I agree, they should have allowed all the new teams, and only new teams to do some prior testing.

Is it just me or is rain expected every race so far except for Bahrain but I'm not complaining although Spain was more exciting than I expected without rain.
