Back on topic (and with less sarcasm): Its great to see North America get a race and my small group of F1 fans up here in Washington (the state, not the city) are very excited to make our first trips to the state of Texas and watch the race!
Dude, seriously. What Obama had in mind, and what really got implemented are two different things. And.....there's no point in whining about the national debt, since the national debt is NEVER going away. Feel free to pay more taxes if you'd like. Anyway, what I'm saying is that if anyone is going to find a way for actual people that need the money/jobs to get it, then it would be Mr. Perry. Leave it to a Conservative Texan to show the Liberals how it's done.

Really? Because it'll be a cookie-cutter race track? Take the sand out man. It's an F1 race in the US again. They could run the cars on ANY track around here and I'd still go!

I have a hard enough time watching the races at the new (ie" Tilke") tracks on TV. Sure i'll go to a race and see the scenes, but the race (the reason for going right?) on those tracks has been DVR/Tivo at best.

I get what you're saying. There are strong odds that nobody is going to be talking about how the US GP in Austin, TX is the event/race that EVERYONE is looking forward to most on the upcoming 20XX calendar. And to be honest, I wouldn't expect them to build one of the best tracks in the world with some of the best overtaking zones in Austin, TX anyway. But still, F1 cars are going to be on display, the show will be in full effect, and I could never have imagined an opportunity to attend an F1 event without needing airfare, and a rental car to make it happen. Maybe I'm just biased because it's going to be held in my backyard?!?!

P.S. Interesting article on how NY "got screwed". I'd be surprised if Bernie wasn't bought out for the deal one way or another.

BINGO!

I'f i'm spending $1,500 to go to a race (flight/hotel/taxi/food/hookers) I'm going to see Circuit Gilles Villeneuve which is at a fantastic track with tons of history, overtaking, spectacle and "champion's wall".

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Circuit_Gilles_Villeneuve

With the exchange rate at ~1 to 1 its not "cheaper" like it used to be, but still.....

And for the record: there is nothing in this world that bernie wouldnt sell out for. I'm shocked he doesnt pimp out his daughter... but then again i'm not rich enough to inquire, he may well be doing that.

You meant nothing that he "wouldn't" sell out for right?!

I totally understand your viewpoint. Sucks to think you might end up spending all of that money just to watch 50-70 parade laps. Hookers are probably going to bring up your overall expense to more than $1,500 though. Haha

^ No, I get free airfare and wouldnt need the hotel room. (classy hookers should have a base of operation on such a busy time of year).

It was $1,300 for hookers and $200 for food.

What? Free airfare? The family earned it and I use it.

No, $200 for 4-5 days worth of food. BBQ and beer is nowhere near that expensive down here.

The races being boring has much less to do with who designed the track, as it does with how the cars are engineered and how the track is prepped. I agree with GG, they could hold the race anywhere really (how about a Midget track, LOL), and I'd go to see it. For me seeing the cars live has nothing to do with the show on track - I just want to hear the engines screaming in person. Have to admit that the current batch of RPM limited engines do take some of the fun out of it for me, though.

... I mean I could come back and say the actual term you are seeking is "ironic" ... where a republican leader and actually invests the "stimulus money" in a project that could potentially "stimulate" the economy Just the way the current administration intended it to do ... but then that would just be "logical"

Seriously, why bring politics into this?!? Can we just keep this about racing and F1 ...

Not true, all the street circuits have always sucked. Track are always too narrow to allow overtaking and the straight aways aren't long enough .... Street circuit races are like watching a parade of cars for 50+ laps ...

If you knew me, you'd know that my comment about Perry was chalk full of irony. And I mentioned it because my local gov't officials are at least partly responsible for F1 coming to Austin. Seems pretty obvious. Duh. J/K

I don't agree. Just off the top of my head Long Beach (various series) and the Norisring (DTM) come to mind as two excellent street circuits.
