Vortex Generators Really Work . . . . Fact or Fiction ??
.
I'm looking into possibly installing a vortex generator on my track Evo 8.
I've heard everything from "They're the greatest"...
to "Useless unless you have a large rear wing mounted at roof height."
Does anyone have knowledge if VG's help with downforce at high MPH, or
reduce drag or help the rear wing, etc. ??
Thanks.

Mitsu published some CFD (computational fluid dynamics) & wind tunnel results that showed the VGs cleaned up the flow a bit behind the rear window giving a drag coefficient change of -0.004 (compared to maybe 0.3 total) and a lift coefficient change of -0.013 (not sure what the baseline is). So they work, but the effect is not big. But if you're racing, you'll take any help you can get.
I'd be very interested to know if any of the racers have run with and without the VGs and if they noticed a difference, and if they could measure the difference in lap times.

Im sure they help on the corners for auto-x and road racing. For drag racers like myself it is recommended that you take off the wing and put on a VG if you don't have one already, some people have seen good gains with this.

george3 whoever told you the vortex generator only works with a larger than stock wing was wrong. One of the major benefits to having the VG is so that the air flows more over the stock wing, lessening the need for a taller aftermarket wing.

for the street no,
for track likely / yes
for aerospace most certainly
But then again it all comes back to design. so for the company that actually tests it with full on R&D, its a good thing.

I know a lot of knock-offs are sold on Ebay, which is why I don't buy anything for my car on that site.
Does anyone know of any legit Seller's selling VG's that have been "tested" on the track or wind tunnel? I didn't see anything like that from APR, TiTek, etc.
All those that I've read assure results, but not with anything to back it up.

Several legit Evo shops told me this, and a lot of the good racers
at the track, too.
I know it's easy to parrot what they've heard, but they must be
getting their information from somewhere.
