IMO, no way they can safely incorporate a jump like that into the program. Its hard enough to pull off the X-games jump when nobody's near you.

RallyCross will have jumps for sure...but I can't see the gap jumps happening.

I hope whatever jump they do have is minor but I heard "X-Games factor" when the intended jump was being described...

I'll do some asking around on Monday and will report back with what I find.

Despite the fact a round of the Rally America series was happening this weekend, I already got a reply back from the top levels of the organization:

"Rallycross jump will not be a car breaker... That would be dumb."

So, there you go.

Rally cross is crazy money. More then Rally . Also it is AWESOME!
But you guys have to be thinking about 100 times before you jump in. Will cost a heavy money , and im not kidding here...

In my little country has a long and big history of rally cross /and almost any motor sport for us is like a baseball.../. I did it for couple events with a Lada

Fact one of my good friend build one of the best rally cross Evo in Hungary .

here is the Official schedule of the Hungarian rally and motorsport. These are bigger events but sure you can find many many more local and medium events. They are usually just as good. All out events

You just need to google out the Place they holding it. The places are usually very small and a lots of people involved. So not hard to find the event for sure.
Also most of the time looks like a Macy's Parade so everybody is out there

The Red highlited names are the places you have to google it to find the races. Most of them is a town or the specific race track like Laguna Seca for example.

I agree, any jump that's a car breaker is dumb but from what I hear, the jump at NJMP will be more than a traditional style Rally Cross jump...

Would be curious to see how you asked the question as that could have influenced the response. Who did you hear back from: Doug, J.B., or Mike?

I didn't ask for written permission to post the reply, so I'll just say it was one of the guys you listed. FWIW, that's not to say that there won't be a larger version of jumps seen at Euro Rallycrosses, but I take the reply to mean we won't have to deal with a gap jump. Rally cars can catch all kinds of air with proper suspension, so as long as its smooth/gradual takeoff and landing area, I don't see huge problems. I do expect that RA will try to make the US series unique, so if the format proves successful, I can see them looking for ways to ramp up the excitement, but if 80% of the cars leave with terminal damage, they may not see many return customers. Without the entrants, there is no long term success.

Here's the email I sent:

Hi Guys,

Not sure who was the right guy to ask with this question, so I've copied you in. I've started hearing rumors of an "X-games" type jump in the rallycross. From a privateer standpoint (and safety standpoint), I can't fathom how this would work, as enough guys destroy cars on the gap jump without having to worry about getting bumped as you take off.

I know Euro rallycross programs almost always feature places where you'll catch air, so I've got no issues with that at all. I was just curious if you had any details on the features that might find their way into the course that you're able to share?

Thanks!

That's a nicely worded email! I share the same concern you expressed to them. Are you racing in the Rally Cross events at NJMP?! That's exciting stuff!

I'm really trying to figure out how to attend. My car was built as a rally car from the rules side of things, but I went a bit wild on the power side since I use it for hillclimbs (i.e. no restrictors). I've got a TR30R turbo that'll really shine on a restrictor, so I think I wouldn't be too far off in the power game.

Its just the pinball/bumper car damage that's going to be expensive to fix, and I don't want to ruin a perfectly nice car if I don't have the budget/sponsors to put it back into tip-top shape afterwords.

Yea, rally cross should have a unlimited power class to let people with deep pockets go real fast!

Since our team's focus has always been PPIHC, we're used to dealing with the dual surface (tarmac & gravel) that we'll find in NJ.

On the power side of things I don't think we'll be too far off the mark, as I've got a good turbo to run on the restrictor, I just need to get a 45mm restrictor milled and have the car re-tuned.

Dave

Might be able to help you out with a more local service crew for the event so you don't have to drag ppl from out west. They are currently building rally cars themselves and have experience with Evos so something that might make it easier. Let me know if its something you're interested in and I'll ask them.
