2010 Solo Noise restrictions

Are you guys that are doing national events worried about the new sound restrictions?

Per Addpendix I of the 2010 Solo Rules sound readings will be measured at all events. Competitors that receive a reading of 100 db@ 50 ft or higer will be considered noncompliant.
At the last event we had (which is at the site of the next National Tour at Mineral Wells Airpark) we had a sound meter setup and someone noting the levels of the cars. The setup wasn't exactly the same as what we'll see at events because the wind was crazy (it was at a 45* angle vs. a 90* angle).

The meter was setup in the middle of a slalom taking readings as the car left the slalom (at full throttle unless you were a sissy).

My car is TBSP 64 and TBSP 164.

I have a AMS o2 housing/downpipe, ultimate racing test pipe and ultimate racing catback.

I was pretty close a couple runs with 98's and 99's.

There weren't any other evos out there to get a relative reading though :-/

Just get a turn down for the tip and point it away from the meter reading direction. That is the standard practice.

100db? wow! that's generous.

if you ever wanted to run a track day at Laguna Seca you would need to pass a 93db sound check or you are DQ'ed.

In the SFR region, we run a 95db sound check CA state law set the limits with this obscure law restricting the sound out of aftermarket cat back exhausts that is basically unenforceable, but I digress...

With my 8, I have a full turbo back exhaust, with a 100 cell CAT and perrin catback. I always pass sound check, even when running at San diego with their overly restrictive sound requirements.

Over on SCCA forums, the former sound check tech for the San diego region suggested that if you get penalized for sound, always protest because 90% of the time the sound check station is in the wrong place for an accurate reading.

Lime Rock is even worse with an insane 89db limit.

Not worried one bit since my exhaust is stock-like quiet (WORKS Exhale w/ ABM). Hell, even without the muffler attached, it's not THAT loud because of the resonator and cat. Not sure if it's under 100db, though.

I have to drive the car to events, so I'm more than happy to give up a few pounds (at the bottom of the car, no less) to not have my ears bleed on long drives.

I have a WORKS turbo back with a 100-cell cat and I've passed sound in San Diego with no problem. Replacing the axle-back portion with their muffler-delete pipe I'm usually right in that 98-100 range.

Just ran the first event for the Atlanta region this past weekend. Our level was 93 and I was informed I was getting close with 90-92. I was running Buschur O2 housing with their 3" straight pipe and magnaflow muffler. Next event we have a test and tune day before and I am planning on trying different turn downs.

Anyone play around with Supertrapp mufflers on an Evo? Just an idea, they are tunable for sound restrictions. I dont want any DNF's.
