How are the Racing Brake 2-piece rotors?

Just wondering if anyone has had a chance to try the 2-piece Racing Brake rotors:
http://www.racingbrake.com/Twopiece_Rotors_s/519.htm

There is one review here from Peter Tiebout:
https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/mo...ds-rotors.html
and hagakure:
https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/mo...or-review.html

But would like to hear a few more opinions from other people who used them in an aggressive track environment, if there is anyone out there.

Specifically:
- Did you notice these rotors running cooler?
- Did you have pad fade/brake fluid boil before and did these rotors help?
- Any formation of heat micro stress cracks like on stock (or other 1-piece discs) discs?
- Are they holding up to the abuse?
- How is the pad wear rate due to the slots compared to solid disks that have more heat?
- Any suggestions of design or quality issues?
- Any comparisons to other 2-piece rotors?

Thanks.

PM Peter Tiebout. He's ran them for about 2 years, and raves about them. He just installed 2 pieces in the rears also.

Thanks, been talking with Peter already and posted link to his review. Looking for more observations/opinions. 1 to 3 samples is not very statistically significant (not implying at all that they are wrong or anything like that).

I have the open slotted as an upgrade to my original standard slotted that I ran for 5 years. My standard slotted rotors were very good, the open slotted are, thus far, that much better.

Pete puts a lot of time into testing different setups - I would pay attention to what he has to say. Like Pete, I have spent a lot of time testing different setups and our conclusions are very similar as we exchange after the fact so we don't create placebo effects.

When it comes to rotors, you will find it very hard to beat RB open slots. Pads are difficult because they are so personal but rotors are a little more objective.

Since you're posting in the Motorsports section I assume you are looking to use these on track? If so, there are plenty of RB rotors on Vettes, Mazdas and Evos that I'm aware of --- you can look at the condition of the rotors shortly as the season is about to open up.

I won't be at the NJMP Time Attack but I will be at Poconos on the 11th. You can see mine there if you're attending.

We will also be at the NASA event / TT on April 11. I ran the car at NJMP last weekend with the SCCA gang, with the new 2 pc. Open Slot rear rotors and they performed flawlessly. We also have the S-2000 on a set of Custom made (RacingBrake) 2pc. Front slotted rotors using an Accord caliper, which has proven to be an outstanding setup. And we are waiting for delivery of the Evo X 2pc. rotors so we can begin the track testing with the X rotors. I will hopefully see some more of you guys at the tracks this season, and get some more user feedback about the performance of the RacingBrake products. Please feel free to contact me with ANY questions..or comments. Thanks, Pete

I just put a pair of RB's on a customer's E36 to replace Stoptech discs. The RBs have a bit more core shift in the casting compared to the Stoptechs. I also like the Stoptech hardware better. I'm interested how the RBs wear compared to the Stoptechs. We only have one event on the RBs and its from a very low braking track.

Has anyone weighed these?

I'm wondering how much they weigh compared to other two-piece rotors. I looked in the threads linked in this thread but didn't see any weights reported.

I have these on my car and absolutely love them. Super light (don't know the weight) and very good construction. I track my car really hard, until my head gasket blew, and these have served me well. I started going to a new track with a huge straight and I'm still boiling the fluid and chunks actually came off my brake pads. Needless to say, I'm still looking for that perfect combo. But these rotors have helped for sure.

I got these rotors because I liked the company. They were polite and helpfull on the phone and they have some pretty good data to back up this unique design.

Site says it's 19 lbs...not sure though how true that info is.

Cy, these are definitely not as light as the Baer Earadispeeds you're running.

I believe the 2-piece rotors that Works sells (http://www.worksevo.com/store/produc...roducts_id=279) are re-branded Racing Brake 2-pieces. Works product page says they save 6 lbs of unsprung weight vs. stock (3lbs per side).

So far I have been happy with the performance and wear of the 2-piece rotors I bought from Works. They seem to wear really well. So far I am on my third set of pads with the same rotor rings (2 * Hawk HT-14 for track, and 1 * Axxis Ultimates for street). I haven't checked recently how much rotor thickness I have left, as I have only been using my Evo on the street, and haven't done any track days recently. The rotors do show some heat stress micro cracks though, so I'll probably order & replace the rotor rings and attachment hardware next time I go to the track and/or do a pad change.

I do like that with 2-piece rotors in general, that just replacing the rotor rings & hardware doesn't cost that much more than some of the better 1-pieces. OTOH, I know some racers that just use ultra cheap 1-piece blanks, and then replace them more often. When using 2-piece rotors for a frequent track/race setup, it's probably best to have 2 sets of center hats though, so you can have a standby set with rotor rings already pre-fitted and ready to go, to facilitate quick rotor changes if necessary.

I think I am going to switch track pads though, as I am not overly impressed with the wear rate of the Hawk HT-14s, since I seem to go through a set of them every 3 or 4 track days. I think I'll probably try Raybestos ST-43s next, since those reportedly wear really well, or maybe the new CL Brake CL6s.
