AMS Sponsored 929 Evo - NASA MW @ Gateway TTB Record!
The first NASA Midwest region event was held last weekend at the Gateway Int'l Raceway 'Roval' roadcourse. It incorporates nearly 1/2 of the nascar track with an infield to form a 1.6 mile 'roval' roadcourse. It's pretty easy on the brakes but a lot of people have difficulty with all the walls as there's very little/no runoff room around the track. I was seeing top speeds of 135mph. I came away with the TTB track record on Saturday and 1st in TTS on Sunday; both ended up to be the FTD's for TT.
Edit: Here's the official TT review from NASA: http://nasamidwest.com/pdf/press_rel...GIRTTApril.pdf
- Saturday This was my first track day of the year. It's basically my home track and I didn't have any major setup changes this year so I just dove right in on Saturday and got up to speed. In the last session I set a new TTB track record with 1:08.75.
- Sunday I jumped up 2 classes to TTS for a few different reasons. I had leftover tires from last year I wanted to use up (weren't legal for my TTB setup anymore), I wanted to test out some other changes and also simply for some more competition as there was a small turnout for the event. I quickly found out that A6's I stored from last year with ~8 heat-cycles weren't up to the challenge. I ran a few scary sessions with them and was about 1.5 seconds slower while really have to be careful on the brakes as the car wanted to trail-brake if I wasn't 100% straight under hard braking. In the 4th session I actually spun a near 180 (video coming on this) between T5-T6 which is pretty hairy to say the least and then decided to ditch the old A6's and go back to my setup from Saturday. So I put my TTB R6's back on climbed to within .012 seconds of Jeff's sweet silver Evo. It was nice have 2 Evo's at the top of the TT class with the 2 best times of the day! We both had to go out for the last session to try and squeeze out some more time and in the end I squeezed out a narrow victory in the very last session of the day!

The video is short and from 3 different session over the weekend. First up is the TTB track record lap, then chasing down a GTR, then chasing down another Evo and the winning lap for TTS on Sunday.
New for 2010 are 18x9.5" Forgeline ZX3R's. More pics and info HERE! I also switch to f/r slotted & directionally veined powerslot roters which I believe are made by Stoptech. Other than that, AMSOIL in the engine and the brake fluid as always - terrific products.

Nicely done Nathan.
I had my first taste at TT this weekend. Unfortunately I was the only one running in TTB, so competition was a little... lacking. Fortunately TTS had some fast guys, so I had a good target to chase. Definitely a little rusty being the first time on track in six months, but good to finally get the car out on track.

Not like I haven't tried. Btw; I picked up a set of gloves finally - not sure I like them yet.

Those that missed GATEWAY on April 17th and 18th missed a phenomenal event! Weather was perfect, and once again, records fell faster that politicians can flip flop on issues. Five new records were set in Time Trial, including Nathan Pitcher in TTB with a 1:08.750, David Proudfoot in TTC with a 1:09.729, Joe Sullivan in TTE with a 1:13.179, Mike Weber in TTF with a 1:17.094, and David Lowum in TTU with a 1:12.445. We also welcomed several new folks to the TT ranks, including Russ Vester, Dave Connally, and Pat McGinnis. I thought the battle between Nathan Pitcher and Jeff Vance was the best of the weekend. In the 3rd round on Sunday Vance had a .013 of a second lead on Pitcher. Then, in the final round of competition, Pitcher found that little bit extra to secure a victory. Congratulations Nathan. Thanks once again to our sponsors at HAWK and
HOOSIER.
