I know I moved to a cheaper class/platform, but I'm not a National caliber driver so it doesn't even matter.

I know. Then we have the camber tire guys in the 2011 Sti. They're running in Colorado this weekend so we'll see what's up with that. Silly ST Civics, stay in ST.

I think I lost to 3 ST civics last weekend.

The car isn't very prepped. From what I saw last weekend, the tires have a pretty good amount of grip, must be a decent compound.

The driver they had running is good, but not great - and from watching the videos it looks like I probably could've run similar times in their mostly stock STi compared to what I ran in a very-well-prepped STR S2000. As it was, they were over a second off on a 33-34 second course.

I guess we'll see what happens head-to-head this weekend in STU.

I need to go back and read that sccaforums thread, but I thought the camber tire was deemed ineligible due to the low production numbers? I know that discussion was last year and perhaps things have changed, not sure. Not worried about it, just interested.

No offense to your friend, but I hope he gets his butt handed to him in STU. It really annoyed me last year when Hollis switched over to STX and beat everybody. I'm glad they are keeping people from doing that with the 2012 rule changes.

As for the 2011 STi...I don't really think they would be much of a threat in STU trim, unless they have a longer 2nd gear than the older ones. Correct me if I'm wrong, but most of the things that make the 2011 better than the previous generation came from stiffer stock springs and swaybars? Seems like that benefit would go away in STU since you can install aftermarket ones anyway.

All GR Chassis STi's ('08+) have the taller 2nd gear of the '07 GD STi and in addition come with 18's. Still pretty easy to hit the limiter though. I think the real issue with the GR's comes with some of the engine issues that have popped up and the increased weight over the GD. I think an '11 sedan could be made competitive, but I don't think it's the best STi option for STU.

Contrary to sololive, I'm sitting in first by just under 3 tenths after day 1. Timing issues galore, I lost my fastest run. 2nd run was posted as a 57258.000, had to deal with that just to get a clean fast time. Tomorrows course is faster.

I'm late to the party, but I thought I'd check in. Currently running a 2008 evo X w/ KW robispec clubsports, Cobb HFC, Agency power catback, and EBC yellowstuff pads. I've placed 1st in all 6 STU events I've raced in this year, and am usually top 3-4 in pax with ~ 50 drivers at the events (some very competitive at nationals). Who knew an X could keep up?

Kevin, I think I saw you at Bonneville HS in Idaho Falls on July 4th, although I didn't have 4 people riding in my car every run like you did. Here's a very shaky video of one of the runs.

I wish Irish would have been able to stick around to help me understand proper setup for these coilovers, I'm shooting blind right now but the car is handling very well.

Congrats! A guy here also ran an Evo X at local events last year and did well with it. Driving that car was actually what prompted me to buy an Evo. For him though, bigger (national) courses seemed to be where the X really lost competitiveness. I think it's hard for it to overcome all the extra weight going into high speed transitions, slaloms, etc. Although thanks to the AYC/AWC/whatever, they sure rotate well through big showcase turns.

Kevin & Rob's car had some serious clutch slip on the drive back to the hotel Saturday night, enough that they weren't confident they could run it Sunday and have any chance of getting home after the event... So we didn't get to have the shootout we wanted. Sean Grubb and I basically matched raw times but Sean was dirty so I ended up taking the win by a decent margin. Fast fast course on Sunday, lots of rev limiter and sliding around.

I think that with a little more setup work, the IX that I was driving could be very competitive/win at Nationals. The Evo is a pretty solid platform for a fast STU car.
